The Pegulas expand their reach to Rochester

This time, they're getting an NLL expansion team which will be known as-yes-the Knighthawks. The CURRENT team will play one more season in Rochester, then the players will move to Halifax in the 2019-20 season.

Yes, it's confusing. And I know what your first question is: Why in the HELL can Terry Pegula own both the Bandits and Knighthawks? Well...from what I'm aware, there is nothing in the NLL bylaws that forbids it. Joseph Tsai, who owns the expansion San Diego Seals, apparently has a stake in another NLL team. Also, in the early days of MLS Robert Kraft & Lamar Hunt famously had stakes in multiple teams which kept the nascent league afloat. Steve Bermel,

And, BTW, the NLL is not stopping at JUST Rochester and Halifax. Marisa Ingemi, who writes extensively on lacrosse, notes that teams are expected to be coming to New York(which would be the 2nd attempt at an NLL team), Boston(the third go-round)and...the SF Bay Area in the near future. THAT team, apparently, would be owned by the Golden State Warriors.
"Let me give you some advice, bastard. Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you."

I wish they would simply expand their knowledge of professional sports ownership to competent.

My understanding is that the Bandits and Rochester's new team will be completely separate entities. Pegs' ownership is the only common thread.

    Maybe...

"Canada has become a “pawn” for international money launderers who exploit the country’s weak laws that allow hidden ownership of real estate and other assets, a new report says.

In the report from the C.D. Howe Institute, author Denis Meunier — a former deputy director with Canada’s anti-money laundering agency — writes that official estimates of the amount of money laundered in Canada each year range from $5 billion to $100 billion.

Criminals involved in drug trafficking, smuggling, tax evasion and corruption have parked their dirty money in Canadian real estate and businesses, the report says, because they do not have to be identified as owners of shell companies and legal trusts."...

    Hmm....

"Canada has become a “pawn” for international money launderers who exploit the country’s weak laws that allow hidden ownership of real estate and other assets, a new report says.

Criminals involved in drug trafficking, smuggling, tax evasion and corruption have parked their dirty money in Canadian real estate and businesses, the report says, because they do not have to be identified as owners of shell companies and legal trusts.

Meunier says that while European countries have moved to establish public registries that would identify true owners of assets, over the past 15 years Canada has lagged behind in ownership transparency laws.

Current loopholes are so glaring, Meunier says, that more identification is required to obtain a library card in Canada than to register a corporation.

The average Canadian “must provide a government approved photo identification to obtain a bank account, library card or official documents such as a passport and driver’s licence,” the report says. “No such scrutiny is placed on the beneficial owners of corporations or parties to a trust.”...

Cincy: Kinda jumping ahead, aren't we?

The CURRENT Knighthawks are owned by Curt Styres(who also used to own the Amerks). It's THAT team(as well as its players & front office structure)which is moving to Halifax. The NEW Knighthawks will be owned by Pegs.
