    Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

Season starts tomorrow at home against the Mets.

No Harper, but he wasn't worth what he got anyway. I hope they can get Rendon locked up long term. There's some exciting talent on the team in Rendon, Turner, Soto, Robles and Kieboom. Hopefully Michael A. Taylor won't be out too long as he's the best backup option in the outfield. It'll help if Eaton can stay healthy.

The division will be tough, with Miami being the only team that doesn't have a shot.

    Let's see those Curly W's....

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

Not quite the start we had hoped for but there is some good news.

Robles is hitting well batting 9th. Rendon is playing well. Trea Turner has 4 stolen bases in 3 games (no that's not a typo). Scherzer pitched well in the opener- it was lack of O that killed us. Oh yeah- Turner's also hitting well. He had 2 HR and 4 RBI including the walk-off in the bottom of the 9th for the first curly W of the season.

Tomorrow (probably today by the time anyone reads this) is Bryce Harper's return to DC. And he'll be facing Scherzer...

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

    Well, this is going poorly.

The team has been decimated with injuries. Turner is still out. Rendon, Soto, and Zimmerman have all missed time, along with key backups Michael A. Taylor and Howie Kendrick. The starting pitching has been inconsistent, and when they are good they get no run support.

People are calling for manager Davy Martinez’s head and it may happen. I see it both ways: it’s hard to expect anyone to win with that man injuries, but he’s made some questionable decisions.

We will see what happens but I read the other day that they’d have to play at a .603 clip the rest of the season to get to 90 wins. Ouch. I’m not holding out much hope.

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

I see the Dodgers pitched a one-hitter against them this afternoon.

That a big money franchise like the Nats have a worse record than the Reds, who can only afford a miniscule payroll, and play in a pitcher - killing ballpark is hard to understand. Money also buys a bench and minor Leaguers to surmount injuries

BTW, this is the Reds forum I belong to. It's a pretty good site...BB is taken seriously here. Check out the site.

Crazy season so far. Nats are the hottest team in baseball right now- currently whooping the division-leading Braves and holding the wild-card slot.

There’s a lot of baseball left to play but at least they’re making it interesting after a garbage start.

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

It's been one hell of a season. The Nats started slow but have been on fire since late May. Even an injury to Scherzer didn't slow them down. Strasburg is having a career year and Rendon has been incredible- he's going to get a huge paycheck this off-season.

Last night, they walked off the Mets after being down 10-4 in the 9th. Suzuki hit a 3 run homer to win it.

Currently, the Nationals hold the wild card slot, although there are a few teams right on their heels. Unfortunately, Atlanta just won't lose, so the Nats are 6.5 games back for the division lead and it's highly unlikely that they'll be able to catch the Braves.

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

WC is Nats and the Brewers- only thing left to decide is if the game is in MIL or DC. Nationals currently have a one game lead. Both teams have 4 games left

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

Nats win their last 8 to earn the home WC game... but it’s not going well. Scherzer gave up 2 homers in the first two innings and with 2 outs in the top of the 3rd, it’s 3-0 Brewers and the Nats have just one hit.

It’s a shame that 4 months of great work can get screwed by one bad game but that’s how it works.

1-2-3 for Scherzer in the 3rd. Let’s see if the bats wake up.

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

Rough start so far. Corbin walks 4 in the first for a run, 5 left on for the Nats. Long way to go but the Nats can’t keep squandering opportunities and expect to get a W against a team as good as LA.

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

Everything that could have gone wrong tonight, did. Starting pitching was only ok, bullpen was terrible as usual. Fielding had bad plays from vets, bats were stone cold. Too many walks, too many LOB.

Series isn’t over yet but right now the Nats just look overmatched by a better team.

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

Down 8-4 and will need to win the next two to move on.

This team has defied odds all season but I just don’t see how it happens.

I don’t really bet on sports, but if I did, I’d bet this ends tomorrow in LA’s favor.

Great season by the Nats to get this far after such a terrible start. One of these years, they’ll win a series.

Staying in the fight for at least one more.

I thought these guys wouldn’t be able to recover mentally after that drubbing yesterday, but they’ve fought back all year so I shouldn’t have underestimated them.

Whatever happens Wed, much respect to a team with no quit in them.

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

    8:37 first pitch..... uggh.

The good thing is regardless of what happens, it's the last late one. If the Nationals win, all the remaining teams are in the East or Central time zones. If the Nationals lose, I will no longer be watching.

It's been one hell of a ride. 19-31 starts to 93 wins, a WC win, a game 5 in the NLDS....

I grew up a Blue Jays fan because the first MLB I ever attended was in Toronto. It was awesome when they won back to back's in the early 90's, especially Joe Carter's grand slam. I lost interest during the strike season and stopped following it for a while, although I did follow the McGuire/Sosa HR records. I didn't really start following it again until the Nationals came to DC. It's nice to have one team that I don't have to pay extra to watch...

Re: Official 2019 Washington Nationals thread

Well this sucks. Nats can’t solve Buehler and Strasburg struggled early. 3-0 LA in the top of the 5th.

It’s only gonna get worse when their bats face our bullpen.
