Starting to look like Capt Tank is checked out again.

What might a return package for Eichel look like?

I think you could get a very good roster player, 1st round pick, and either 2 A prospects or another 1st and an A prospect. My assumption here that is if you are trading him you are blowing it up. The hard part will be finding someone with 10M in cap space. Good teams aren't going to want to part with much on the roster (plus those picks will be low) and bad teams won't want to give up draft or prospect capital. It is a tricky one. Eichel the player, every team in the league would want. Eichel and his contract is tougher.
In a flat cap. If it starts going up again, it gets easier.

I was looking around, how about this trade. I picked Calgary as a team that I could see.
To Calgary
Eichel
To Buffalo
C - Sean Monahan (have to hope Buffalo isn't on his 10 team list), 1st round pick, G - Dustin Wolf. Maybe another NHL player to make the salaries match or Buf might have to retain some for a year or 2. Might even have to throw another lower pick in going to Buffalo.
Thoughts?

Eichel stays... why should he be given an escape clause from the horror on ice that he is a part of?

Don't know if you would get both Wolf and Valimaki but I think the deal is close enough that it could at least be a starting point. If it was to happen for this year it needs to happen now as 14 days is a long time to not have a 1C while he would quarantine and they would want time to make a run.
Wolf has 6 years of Markstrom to deal with in Calgary so they might consider trading him.

If you don't get a C in return, you will have to roll Staal out there as your 1C or pushing Cozens into that spot before he is ready.
Gaudreau has been excellent this year with both Monahan and Gaudreau having down years last year but seem to be carrying the play a lot. I have gotten a real good look at them as the Jets have played them 3 in a row. You couldn't go wrong with either but I think the positional priority of C should take priority here.
That's fair. My concern with those 2 being top prospects, the roster player in return wouldn't be as good. If you are blowing it up, it doesn't really matter but I'm not sure the Flames would give you both Monahan and a 1st.
This was fun, I have a bit of time being at sea and will try to come up with another trade scenario
An Eichel trade wouldn't happen until the offseason.
Far too many moving parts.
I don't see a deal with Calgary taking place as proposed here.
Why would Calgary give up Monahan and top prospects and picks to get back another Monahan?
Gaudreau dropped off and Monahan dropped off. Gaudreau scores, Monahan plays well. I don't think they are in the same category of player personally. Eichel can carry and drive a line and has shown that even playing with chumps can produce.
I would bet Monahan would have Buf on his 10 no trade list as well so probably a non-starter.
You are probably right that Calgary wouldn't go for it. Just looking for a team that thinks they are in their window but not low enough to not want to part with captial.
realistically without the cap going up, it would be tough to get fair value or even find a partner for Eichel.
Huh? The guy is checked out because he knows that, yet again, there's no chance of winning with the players around him. Yet, he's still a point per game player. Put some talent around him and motivate him with the chance to actually be successful, and he will be productive.
