    2019 NHL Draft Discussion Thread

To jump right in... apparently this afternoon’s game has Sabres draft implications. If the Stars win, we will get the 18th overall pick in the upcoming draft.

    That’s huge.

Personally, I think Peyton’s Krebs is all but pencilled in our pick at 7. He’s a point per game forward on a crap team that drives possession and plays hard in all 3 zones. He has positional versatility and is good on the draw. He is also A+++ in terms of character by all reports.

The wild old card pick here would be the 5’6” scoring machine Caufield.

That would bring us to 18.

I would hope if 18 happens, Botts is aggressively trying to trade back up into 9-11 range.

Krebs and Boldy would instantly add good middle 6 depth to this team.

nope everything I've heard and read in Hockey News is that Chicago is taking Turcotte,

"That’s a childhood dream, I guess, growing up as Hawks fan," said Turcotte. "You always think of how cool it’d be to play for the Chicago Blackhawks. I think that’s the same for any kid that is from their hometown with a chance to go there. It would be really cool, but in the end I’d be happy anywhere in the NHL."

now that Sabres have hired Don Granato I wonder if he will be putting his in about the American kids in this draft since he was part of USNTDP
he led his teams to victories at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and the 2015 IIHF World U18 Championship. He was also an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship and at the 2014 and 2018 IIHF World Championships.

Button has Caulfield in the top 5 now. Maybe he doesn't get to 7

I felt and still do when we landed at pick 7 that Boldy be the pick. O
I'll stick by it until shown otherwise on draft day.

We won't see any of them for 2-3 years. It's who has actual upside.

Re: 2019 NHL Draft Discussion Thread

Chris Peters from ESPN was on WGR550 this morning..

" The top 10 in this years draft is better than last years draft"
" The top 2 guys Hughes and Kakko are in a league of their own... The next 10 guys there is not much difference separating them"
" if Cole Caufield is still available when the Sabres pick the sabres should run to the podium and take him... Caufield would be a home run pick for the Sabres... Anyone who has issues with Caufields size needs to think about this... If there was a 2016 redraft right now...Alex Debrincat would go top 5

Debrincat plays on a line that includes two 6-3 200# guys at C and RW in Strome and Perlini. Caufield wouldn't get that here in Buffalo. To me Boldy gives us something we lack which is a strong two way winger with some size.

Boldy is an average skater and that scares me away

Assuming Hughes, Kappo, Turcotte and Byram are off of the board when we pick... who are your top 3?

    1. Caufield
    2. Zegras
    3. Seider

    Mine are caufield, zebras, dach

IF turcotte or byram can be had, I'd take one of them for sure.

From what I've read, podkolzin has plummeted in rankings and may even be available LATE in the first round.

I'd love if Podkolzin fell to us at the bottom of Round 1 yet think he has too much upside to not go in the teens.

I'm calling it now, the Devils are going to regret not drafting Kaapo Kakko first overall.
