One of the worst media circuses ever. As for OJ, well he is as wretched a human being as he was amazing as an athlete

    I remember it well.

I was working in Regina, Saskatchewan at the time.

    Riveting TV on CNN.

    Re: 25 years ago today

I had met OJ three weeks before this. He had mistaken me for a mutual acquaintance who worked for NBC Sports. We had a nice, 5 minute conversation after we both realized that I wasn't who he thought I was, but that we both knew the person he thought I was.

He had been my childhood hero, but I didn't ask him for an autograph, as it would have been a breach of protocol in my job.

He went back to the far end of the bar with his friends (Mike Militello, others), and I sent them a round of drinks.

The bartender, who knew OJ, said to him "That guy you were talking to is my boss. He would kill for your autograph, but he would never ask for it."

OJ, who was very personable, told her "Go ask your boss for his address, and I'll send him something nice from (my) house when I get back home."

So, I wrote my name and address on a bar napkin and the bartender (a very good friend of mine) brought it to OJ.

He waved, I waved. Glasses were raised.

Three weeks later, I'm standing in the exact same spot, watching the slow white Bronco chase.

And all I could think of was "Oh my God. My name and address are on a bevnap sitting on this guys desk at his house."

I never got anything, but I was afraid I'd get a call from the FBI. Just as well, I'd have burned it anyway.

No sense burning it. That would be one helluva story at barbecues. It's pretty good without the swag.

    "Dear Wagoncircler,

Thanks for the drink from a few weeks ago. Enclosed is a signed pic of me taken after the 1973 season. Sorry about the little blood drip on it, I cut my finger on a glass in my hotel in Chicago the other night"

Can we go back in time and shoot a rocket launcher at the Bronco ?

If I were to do that I would choose December 1990 and aim it at BB's office at Giants Stadium instead.

Funny thing is....had it not been for a last second goal line fumble by Ed Rutkowski in Oakland, he would have become an Eagle.

I met him a couple times, the last being at a pep rally for the Bills before the playoff game against the fish in 1991.

He was wearing that half-Buffalo-half-San Francisco jacket.

He interviewed me and a few others about what we thought the Bills chances were in the playoffs.

He was so into it, seeing the Bills as a contender, that I still wonder how he could have done what he did.

    Weird.
