    SI Predicts Bills Go 6-10

    AFC EAST

    PATRIOTS: 12–4*

I have New England losing one of two to the Jets, one to the Eagles, one to the Chiefs and, after great internal strife, one to the Texans (my other thought was the Dolphins, given that there is typically that one odd Patriot loss that propels all the mindless questions about Bill Belichick and Tom Brady slowing down). I want to be on record about this: I’m not doubting the Patriots. I’m picking them to win the Super Bowl. I’m picking them now, will pick them in the middle of their trademark slump and will pick them again to start the playoffs. I remember being at the post-Super Bowl interview session for the Patriots this year and hearing Kyle Van Noy go off on “all of you” who didn’t believe in us. It was a continuation of Belichick’s ludicrous—but apparently effective—messaging campaign last year to somehow convince the greatest dynasty in NFL history that they were being overlooked. Because of this, I am officially putting a disclaimer on everything I write this year. I do not doubt the Patriots.

    JETS: 9–7

Despite his middling tenure with the Dolphins and strange, Machiavellian shake-up of the team’s front office, Adam Gase was still one of the best hires of this offseason. The Jets will be more competitive than in years past and make a run at a playoff spot. So much rides on their opening game, a divisional matchup against the Bills that bleeds into games against the stockpiled Browns and a road trip to New England.

    BILLS: 6–10

I was ripped this summer for suggesting Bills fans should be happy with a record similar to this if Josh Allen makes incremental steps toward being a complete franchise quarterback. Odd, though, that in one version of this exercise, I had Buffalo winning 10 games. Their schedule is not that bad, especially on the front end with games against the Jets, Giants and Bengals to start. The NFC East pairing also gives them a winnable non-conference opponent in Washington.

    DOLPHINS: 3–13

I tried to find them some more wins, and debated giving them a victory against the Patriots to continue the puzzling run of low-octane teams headed by New England assistants upsetting the champions. I don’t think it’s impossible to get Miami to five wins this year, but the safe play is to view them as a high-percentage favorite for the No. 1 pick in 2020.

Re: SI Predicts Bills Go 6-10

IMO, 6-10 (or worse) has a low probability, but not a crazy choice if someone was going to predict our 2019 record; just on the pessimistic side.

    As I've written before...

I would say the odds of another Bills mediocre season are fairly high, here's the percentages I would assign to three basic scenarios; we can argue about the boundaries, but here's my arbitrary categories:

    A Significant "Losing Season" [ 6-10 or worse ].... 25%

    Another Mediocre Season [ 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 ].......... 50%

    A Significant "Winning Season" [ 10-6 or better].. 25%

You can tweak the percentages, but I'd say the odds are close to that. Just my opinion. At mid-season, we'll certainly have a much better idea of those odds. Obviously because we'll have half the numbers, and also because we can see how the upgraded team has performed and how Allen has developed over the first half of the season.

Those first 3 games are crucial wins if the Bills are to make the play-offs.

I think they are very doable wins.

So...Allen will no longer be a rookie, they added a lot of weapons over the off-season, and their schedule is not that bad. Yep, scream "SAME RECORD AS LAST YEAR!" to me.

Allen has already learned footwork as displayed in the Simms interview. He is being coached up. Big question mark.

WR upgrade is a question mark due to Allen.

OL upgrade is worlds better than what trotted out there last year.

I think the D is improved simply with Edmunds having experience and Oliver should make a difference even in just merely making Jordan Phillips play harder for time.

i cannot even predict because the D could really be dominant. The run game could be much better with the line, but I cannot predict what Allen will be like year 2.

if Allen shows moderate improvement... 9-7. If meh improvement... 7-9. If great improvement... 10-6. If little improvement 6-10.

naturally one can HOPE Daboll has a clue how to use the weapons obtained...

QUESTION. How many TEs are out with injuries already? 5? Are the other 13 any good?

It starts with the OL. I think everyone can agree that it will be much better than last year, when the losses of the 2 best OL (Incog and Wood) hit them hard (I won't even go into coaching). If like me you think the OL got better, I can't see 6-10 barring a slew of injuries or major regression from Allen, and no one can/should use that to make a prediction.

To get into it further, I think the defense will be a force this year, with a secondary boasting 5 good-to-great starting caliber CB's (health is an issue for Kevin Johnson and Gaines), one of the best safety duos, improving LB's and a front line that just added what should be a premier inside rusher to pair with Hughes, as well as Trent Murphy being healthy and rounding into form. I think the secondary and Edmunds and Milano will lead to a lot of INT's and coverage sacks.

On offense, I see Brown and Foster starting outside and their speed forcing CB's and S's to play off the LOS, which will help the running game as well as give Beasley (who I suspect may be the guy Allen will start to look to first) room to work underneath. Now as for TE, the group wasn't good last year (525 total yards among 4 players, Croom having the most with 259 and still on the roster) so it's not a major issue if they can't find a top one, although I have hopes for Knox.

Re: SI Predicts Bills Go 6-10

They've honestly flopped around trying to look prepared while not being so. They started out solid without the roster they wanted and made a fuss about rebuilding long term then added vet FA's because they found obvious no solid, like it was a startling surprise they had offensive issues, while not being so sure about the coaching staff intended to guide everything by the plan.

So now there are a bunch of new players and new staff, and year 3 is really year 2, because I mean you have to give them a flyer for last year. You really want to look to year 4 which is year 3 if they actually constructed a tangible offense and finally gained a stable staff.

6-10 would honestly surprise me less than it evidently would other people. 8-8 is my guess, with 7-9 or 9-7 both being possible, neither being terrible depending on how Allen develops. They aren't simply tuning up a roster and staff that hasn't even gone through a season together yet.

I hope for the best but my days of rosy outlook are gone. It's not doom, but it's unpredictable.

I expect more than 6 wins, but let's be honest. It is not unreasonable. Until this team proves something we should expect predictions like this

I agree with Jamze. I would say 7-9 wins is what I expect. 6 would not shock me at all.

If I lived near a casino that took sports bets, I'd bet a serious chunk of money on the over for Bills wins (6.5). If they go 6-10, Beane, McD and co. all get fired. It won't happen.
