There’s no denying that Barkley played great last year when he was in and he has played great this preseason.

    Tough question.
Draft a franchise QB that X-Era would be proud to put in his user name for the next 13 years.

Barkley has looked sharp and Allen's game last night looked exactly like the beginning of last year. Part of that was the terrible O-line play, especially the penalties that never let the offense get into a rhythm. Barkley is more ready than Allen right now, IMHO. That said, I'm more interested in the future and developing Allen is the only bet on the table.

You can tell it's the preseason when there are fans out there that legit believe we'd be a better team with Barkley, Wade, Williams, Johnson etc starting.

It doesn't matter. We know who will be starting so how about just root for him!

Allen will play every game he’s healthy to play in.

Baker Mayfield threw the ball 26 times, and only completed 38% of them this week.

    2.8 yards per attempt.

    An Interception and no TDs.

Guess Cleveland should start looking for someone else to play QB after that...Makes perfect sense. The Cinderella story is no longer possible...clearly.

Patrick Mahomes. Unfortunately he'll be in Jacksonville playing for KC.

    Barkley is only 28.
He could be the future also.
I’m glad we have Barkley if Allen goes down or is benched due to bad play.

I'd put him on par with Fitzpatrick. Or yeah, maybe he's just a late bloomer.

Allen is going to play as he absolutely should. He will get every chance and then some to show he is the future at QB. The day he’s a healthy scratch is the day the staff stops believing in him. If that day ever comes he’s probably all done here. We’re miles away from a call like that as in not this year basically no matter how he plays

Thanks for the reply but that didn't address the question. We are both in agreement that week 1 is a huge game if we hope to make the playoffs. Barkley has look better prepared (admitted against backups) and has shown how adept he can be at tossing tds to a guy like Duke. I'm not SD on either getting the call week one. And I don't think it would be as devastating to Allen's future here if the staff went with Barkley, if they believe he is more ready to go in the opener.

Barkley if Allen does not seize his potential could be a surprise starter. And really he seems to be fitting in an offense to his liking there. After so many teams he has been on. But really Allen I hope will be the man for years to come. But you never know.

Re: Which QB gives us the best chance to win in the opener.

Well.....I voted Barkley because it seems to me he is. I'd still start Allen and keep starting him because I'm not so worried about the opener as I am the rest of the future.

It's not so insane to know Barkley might be the better QB right now but believe it's better to develop the potential as it requires. I don't really care about getting to the playoffs this year if it sacrifices years of consistent success.

Allen has to be the guy no matter and I'm fine with it.
I lost a bet with Pink and all I got was this dumb avatar that I've had awhile anyway.

It's a reasonable question about game one until Allen finishes putting his game together. It doesn't have to be game one he does.
