    Americans becoming less Christian

Self-identified Christians fall by 12 percentage points in a decade

Fewer than half of millennials are Christians, survey finds

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...ion-survey-pew

Fewer than half of millennials (49%) describe themselves as Christians; four in 10 are religious “nones”, and 9% identify with non-Christian faiths.

As many millennials say they never attend religious services (22%) as those who say they go at least once a week.

Pew’s report, released on Thursday, says the decline of Christian communities is continuing at a rapid pace.

“Religious ‘nones’ have grown across multiple demographic groups: white people, black people and Hispanics; men and women; all regions of the country; and among college graduates and those with lower levels of educational attainment.

“Religious ‘nones’ are growing faster among Democrats than Republicans, though their ranks are swelling in both partisan coalitions. And although the religiously unaffiliated are on the rise among younger people and most groups of older adults, their growth is most pronounced among young adults,” the report said.

    Thank God

There is hope for the country yet!

Cool, there IS a god and he/she has been answering my prayers to make religion outdated and obsolete.

I'm sure there are a lot of reasons for this, but I have to wonder how much effect views on sexuality are having.

Millennials and the younger generation are extremely tolerant of LBGTQ+ issues. While some churches like the Methodists are accepting, others are not, and some outright condemn homosexuality.

It has to be hurting them.

It's weird how more people who don't claim to be religious are actually better people than many who claim to follow the teachings of jesus christ. Our president included.

Well we know Trump is a hypocrite about it. He didn't go to church for decades until he started campaigning and needed right wing votes.

    Observations.

Likely a good reason why so many are walking away from religion. Religious people can be really ugly

There is plenty to suggest there is a difference. One such statistic is the divorce rate among southern baptists.

    Re: Americans becoming less Christian

There are some good things about religion. When I was a kid, I was in Sunday School and Youth Group and did a lot of volunteer/charity stuff that I'm sure I wouldn't have done if it wasn't for the church we went to. When my grandma died and my brother died, people at my parents' church who didn't really know them did all the setup and cleanup for the gathering after the service so the people who were friends with my parents could be there for them. They were great. There's a sense of community and a lot of volunteering and charity work to come from churches and religion.

And a lot of the general teachings of the church are good. The basic method of Jesus is "put others before yourself" and if more people tried to do that, the world would be a better place.

I just wish there was a way to get that without all the crazy judgmental nonsense and weird beliefs.

The Buddhist idea of “you” is attacked as a conditioning to be ignored. Anatta.

I always laugh at these "i don't go to church, practice any religion, but know what is going on posts."

I have nothing to say to anyone here about anything other than if you want to practice Christian beliefs, there are infinite opportunities to do that, and faith based organizations are incredibly efficient at doing those types of things, so if you are so committed, do so.

The rest of the crap that gets posted here by people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about, or criticizing, adds to the madness of this forum.
