I Hate to Say This Beane is NOT a Good Evaluator of Talent

A lot of his draft picks are becoming sour.

His FA signings are also rotting on the vine.

This thread may be premature however I suspect next year there will be a consensus.

What acquisition has he absolutely hit on?

Contrast that with the question marks.

    I wanted to love him.

    I really did.

His player talent (well other than Lee Smith and the WTH decision to sign Hauschka to an extension) choices are not the problem. His coaching staff decisions are. Daboll is not qualified to run a high school JV team let alone an NFL offense.

Daboll needs to go asap and McBeane has shown nothing to deserve another season. Unless they finish strong...

4th best record in AFC and 9th best NFL thus far. I'll take that, yes we have to finish strong but to say nothing so far is pure foolishness.

And trending down like a lead balloon.

They are basically in crisis mode and McBeane has shown nothing that they can boumce back from it.

    Well see.

But they seem to be losing the team.

Are we going to do this again? Reset every three years? I say let this front office establish some more groundwork. We have hit on some talent and missed. Our habit of judging a GM by the first QB they draft is misguided. This team has defecits but it's still better than it was when they (Beane and McDermott) took over. If they are no better next year after offseason development, another draft and cap money to spend, then it will be time to put them on the hot seat.

Beane seems to have staked out a record as a guy who favors drafting high-upside talent over proven performance. At least that seems to be the case with his first round picks, as Allen, Edmonds and Oliver all seem to fit into this mold. That is a very different approach then the prior draft where McDermott traded down and went with a senior (White) wth a track record of success.

Mixed bag so far, only 2 drafts, there’s some solid players on this roster, but lets not kid ourselves, it all comes down to QB1.

Not going to bash Beane, needs more time. With that said, if Allen doesn’t start turning it around Beane better not sit on his hands thinking the light will turn on in 2020. Better to be proactive than reactive.

I think it's more coaching. The roster has talent.

I think it's the process and the program. No harm no foul if they learn and grow, but they'd better.

Turning over 9 starters and 3 assistants on a unit is ridiculous in the 3rd year of a supposed process. Taking a developmental QB without a plan to develop him and no players or staff to support him is ridiculous. Their all star FO and same page scouting has decent hits and wild misses aplenty with over dependence on FA and under reliance on the rookie pipeline we need for the goal of sustained success. Their sure thing draft picks remain iffy. We do need another year to complete the glacial process, but they're all pushing it if they think we need two.

They started with a smatter of talent and core foundation, and week 3 game 10 we have a smatter of talent and core foundation, if a better smatter thanks to other teams drafting in previous years.

Like I said, it's all absolutely forgivable imho, if it gels. If it gels I think it GELS. If it doesn't though it's another slow motion organizational failure we all spent more years of our life watching, and it's aggravating already trying to enjoy a team constantly years away from itself.

Ford is the only player who hasn't shown much at all. Every other player including some late UDFAs have been solid including every FA except Benji/Coleman/Pryor

Re: I Hate to Say This Beane is NOT a Good Evaluator of Talent

    Murphy signing -- questionable

Allen, Oliver, Ford and Edmunds -- not one can be said to be performing above their draft position

The OL FA signings -- all we can say is that they are better than last year which is not saying much

I hope these players start to produce over the next 7 games but if they don't Beane's report card after this year isn't going to look good.

I am not suggesting we get rid of him after this year, however the pressure will be mounting next season.
