What's the background of the poppy? Why use a plant that heroin and other opiates are derived from.

As for Donny Grapes, Canada has a severe problem with white nationalism, This past election Canada had was pretty ugly.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

    In Flanders fields.

    In case you are illiterate-

Cherry's sell-by date had long since expired.

And even though Ron MacLean did the right thing and apologized, I'm not letting him off the hook THAT easily. The time for MacLean to have said something was as the matter was going down, not 24 hours after the fact.

Maclean did not need to throw him under the bus. He just may regret that.

Don Cherry went out on his own terms.

    He wasn't going to apologize.

I wish all Canadians would wear a poppy.

He is wrong that recent immigrants wear poppies less than other Canadians.

The problem here is not the immigrant, it is the whiny left wing white people. They cause so much grief for the immigrant, when they want to just blend in. But these idiots keep bring sh-it to the forefront, to keep fanning the flames. So guys like carl and others here need to tone it down, before some poor immigrant gets beat up.

But people forget very quickly all the good stuff he has said and done. And to dump him on remembrance day, disgusting. My understanding that was taped, so the producers could have stopped it and the network is only moving on this because of backlash.

Grapes has always been a bigot. Canada has become less tolerant of bigots so he finally got fired.

So a man cant stand up for what he believes anymore in Canada without being labeled a bigot. This country is f-ucked.

What he believes is that it is recent immigrants that don't wear poppies and are ungrateful for the sacrifices soldiers have made.

    He is wrong.

He singled out immigrants when he could have said a general term directed towards people who don't wear a poppy for whatever reason.

If he did that, I would support him.

Rural, white Canada must face up to the reality that our nation's power base has shifted to the urban and multicutural.

Times change. There was a lot of **** that went down that just aren't acceptable anymore.

I'm sure the country will be fine with less bigotry.

And you would be treated just as well here. I beginning to think yellow liberal white people are causing most if the grief, seeing racism every where.

My limited experience with veterans of ww2 is they don't want to talk about it and they could give a crap whether people wear poppies or not.
