    16 Cover Zeros Blitzes

Per Daboll, the Ravens blitzed us with no safeties over the middle of the field a total of 16 times on Sunday, thatís a really large amount given how many times Josh dropped back to pass. I know folks hate the deep throws, but if you want a team to stop all out blitzing you have to hit them where it hurts, smash it deep. Granted you can hit a nice slant for huge RAC, but teams leverage their DBs to take that throw away when going 0 blitz.

All the cries about going deep are unwarranted. If we donít hit some deep shots then theyíll just squat underneath and send the house until Josh makes them pay. Yeah we can maybe bang out a screen for gains, but if the DL are disciplined it wont go for much.

The folks here have been talking about this for two days now.

Chan Gailey certainly knows how to answer the safety blitz and it isn't with deep throws. He made a name for CJ Spiller with his approach. Sadly our currently pass catching RB never dresses for games on Sundays.

No. No you don't. You set up the deep ball with running game, play action and screens against a 22 ranked rushing defense. You don't dork around with slow developing long ball plays against physical db's you don't have wr's to outmuscle on necessarily shortened routes because you're being blitzed silly.

Baltimore blitzes madly. That was fact and known, 1 of 2 plays. 53%. You don't beat the blitz passing 39 times against 23 rushing attempts. That's just failsauce, and we proved it.
I lost a bet with Pink and all I got was this dumb avatar that I've had awhile anyway.

But if Josh just hits one of those open receivers over the top in the first, the Raven defensive game plan would have been altered. They had no reason to stop sending the house because our QB can’t hit on anything downfield.

Josh had been pretty good against blitzes up until Sunday. They need to find a hot route or audible to counter those. Yes going deep is one of them, but you aren't going to hit that every time, and it's already a low % throw without Josh's struggles.

He hits one of those and their TE does score a lucky 65 yarder then it would have been the Bills working to stop the Ravens last drive for the win.

On the bright side, we've seen everything they got already and can use it when we play them again in week 2 of the playoffs.

It's better that weaknesses are exposed now, to Josh and the offense, and not in a playoff game. At least now they know what they need to work on, because I'd bet you Pittsburgh will try to do the same thing Sunday Night.

All the cries about going deep are warranted because none of it matters if we can't connect on the deep ball.

They said "we're going to keep bringing the house until they beat us on a deep ball." We never beat them with a deep ball, they kept bringing the house. They dared Allen to beat them deep because they knew he couldn't do it.

Maybe it's the right play call, but knowing what to do and being physically capable of doing it are two totally different things.

Beating cover zero with a deep ball is easier said than done. First, you have to have enough time vs an 8 man blitz. Second, the WR has to have enough time to get down the field. Third the throw and timing have to be perfect. It's not like a normal deep ball where the QB has time to let the route develop.

If Josh could hit a deep ball ever never mind on a blitz that would be helpful. But expecting it is not realistic as of now. He has a cannon but it's about as accurate deep as a cannon

I can't figure this one out, why are we so blatantly wasting him (Yeldon) get someone you will use.

This is true, but there were multiple occasions during the game where it was 0 blitz and we couldn’t connect, Josh missed deep throw against 0 blitz on multiple occasions. Hell the final play of the game was 0 blitz, Josh had the time, but Brown didnt come up with it, Beasley was actually the WR that got the most separation on that final play.

I'm not overly concerned about it. I'm guessing they weren't expecting all out blitzes 50% of the time Josh dropped back. Now, that being said, if they don't have a better counter for it vs Pittsburgh, or whoever else tries to do it, then I will be worried.

    Nomsayin?

Baltimore blitzes the most in the NFL.

Pittsburgh is 6th, New England is 7th.

    Guess who's 5th? The Jets.

We better figure out how to beat the blitz cuz we need to win one of these games.

Pittsburgh might be 6th, but they are first for pressure %, so they blitz less but get more pressure. Plus they'll probably blitz more on Sunday. Josh is going to have to beat the blitz for us to win.

But we didn't and with extra time to prepare you should have a plan B imho. "If" isn't a plan, it's a variable in a plan. "If-then-else" is like a staple of logic. Cookie used the term "dream shots", it was appropriate. It's not a methodical game plan if you base it on haymakers that might land for a knockout and change something because they might not and then what ?

There wasn't a "then what", which is kind of odd if you're sifting for positive.

Going to happen again against Pittsburgh. That will be two games against mad blitzers with a lot of prep and film. It's not all on Allen.

What’s the point in drafting a QB with a cannon for an arm if he can’t hit a deep ball to save his life?
