Are you going to fight the dog and want ears harder for other dogs to bite?

You doing it for its aesthetic appeal?

Cropped ears can help with moisture issues, But will make the ears more susceptible to dirt and sand.

Just wondering what the angle is?

And is the dog older than 12 weeks?

And yes I have questions before I vote.

In Florida I wouldn't do it.

Her ears will get loaded with SAND.

She's borderline to old where a vet just might reject you anyway.

12 weeks is the usual max.

So in short, If she not fighting its a human aesthetics things and I vote no.

I had one during my childhood (Yes ears cropped) But I was in the Bronx very little dirt and ZERO sand.

He was trained in Russian, I enjoyed the scared **** look people had when they had no idea what we were telling him.

And he never responded to english, he looked at you like you're dumb you should try it. Lol

She is 8 weeks this Sunday... will get cropped the following week.

our alpha rescue... German Shepherd, Great Pyrenees, Huskie mix immediately goes for our basset hounds ears.

i wanted a dogo to put the rescue in his place.

    we settled on the Doberman.

Well Blondie here left that little detail out.

In fairness I never asked if other dogs were involved but the fightin question can cover me some on that.

Its not going to hurt the dog after the procedure, But you will have to clean her ears often to keep ear infections away.

Thats the one draw back of the cropped ears, Especially here with all of the sand we have.

Oh, They are really protective (Each dog is different), It could turn out to be a dog that won't like your company (Friends) at your house, Keep an eye on that.

    Koochy. Lol

My Dobys name was Pravitel, It means Ruler.

Koroleva is a cool female name that means Queen. If I ever had a daughter that was the name she was getting no questions.

    Just throwing it out there.

    Re: Domestic Debate

I didn't get my Great Dane "Tiny"'s ears cropped because I never intended to show or breed him. He is special to us but not really remarkable for a Great Dane in terms of colour and markings.

It costs about $500 CAN and I would have had to drive him a couple hours to a vet that will do the cropping since availability is becoming rare. I heard there are only 4-5 vets left in the province of Ontario.

I had a breeder of Great Danes over for a visit and they said they liked having the ears available as handles at times. They had 4 large females and apparently the fighting between them when all their cycles were in sync was epic. There would be injuries but not to their ears.

I like having his ears floppy since he is such a big suck that a slight tug/twist on his ears gets his attention when he misbehaves.

When you have a 140 lb animal who is a clumsy goofy danger to those around him when he is young, you need an edge. I am hoping he calms down soon but he is not 2 years old yet.

When I had 3 Dogo Argentinos, mom and the two pups had their ears cropped since my intention was to breed them and the standard is cropped ears. They can be vicious dogs among themselves when eating or even playing rough so I can see why ears need to be cropped. The standard of ear cropping was due to how the animals were bred to hunt wild boar in Southern Argentina in packs of 4. One could easily lose an ear in that scenario.

My Old English Bulldog "Spike" would initially bite the ears of my unusually tall Basset Hound "Lucy" but she learned to adapt when she played with him and now he has the scars to prove it. No one messes with Lucy anymore.

The neighbourhood has a Doberman and "Lola"'s ears are cropped. The dog is pretty timid and is scared of Lucy after a couple of encounters. When Lucy got loose a couple of times, I would find her at Lola's house trying to steal Lola's bone. Bitches will be bitches.

Unless I intended to show or breed a dog, I would not get their ears cropped. Floppy ears make a dog look more friendly but the ear cropping really does nothing to the inherit character of the dog in itself.

The ear cropping does not really hurt the dog so if you like the look, then go for it.

How long have you had your rescue?

Ours was abused and abandoned so shes scared of her own shadow. It's super sad, but shes so sweet and wants to play and please you. But she doesn't know how.

He goes for her ears when he is playing and corralling her...

I still see no reason to crop the Dobermans ears...

it’s stupid... coastal doesn’t need to make her look tough.

"So Coastal will no longer be the only bitch in the house?"

I agree, Coastal is obviously trying to assert his dominance over the war cropping debate, so I wanted to see what the other Alphas had to say...

plus it’s actually a good debate seeing the history of why Dobermans ears were cropped in the first place.
