My Dream Offseason: Here's what I would do if I was GM (yeah right)

1.) Re-sign Poyer. Get a couple of years added to his contract, front load it.

2.) Re-sign Shaq. He won't demand top DE money, but he should get at least Murphy money

3.) Re-sign Spain. Keep all 5 starters on the O-line as a backup plan. I'll get to that later.

4.) Approach White about an extension, he is under team control for a few more years, but if you can lock him down now for 5 years, at a bit of a discount, do it. Don't make mistakes of past Bills organizations

5.) After taking care of your own, go to free agency. Eliminate as many holes as you can, without overspending. The goal here is to maintain capspace and keep the team in a great cap position. I'm not saying don't spend, but don't spend recklessly and ruin it. I'd like to see free agent money spent on an OT to compete for the starting RT job, a pass rushing DE or OLB (or both), and another OG to compete with Spain. Possibly a WR, but there aren't a whole lot of big possession guys out there, and the ones that are have a long injury history (AJ Green).

6.) Hopefully a few holes are filled by draft time, and you can do what you want. If it's me, I'm compiling a list of WR and CBs for the first 2 rounds. Whichever is highest on my list, I take in round 1, and vice versa round 2. I'd really love to see Chase Claypool in a Bills uniform.

7.) Get a new punter. Watching Houston's punter pin the Bills inside the 10 almost every single time during that playoff game made me so jealous. Bojangles has been good at times, but mostly he's been meh, if not out right horrible.

I'm sure I left something out, but these are the things that jump out at me.

Re: My Dream Offseason: Here's what I would do if I was GM (yeah right)

Number 5 and 5 seem very much in line with Beane's philosophy. Use free agency to fill holes and the draft to upgrade. He's not quite a purist in that. Mitch Morse was clearly intended as a long term (more than a year or two) upgrade at center. Obviously, the odds aren't great that a late day 3 pick is going to upgrade much of anything, but it does seem to be a general approach, and Beane has said as much.

They already have signed competition at punter. Kaare Vedvik is listed as a K/P, but the rumor is the Bills want him to focus on punting. He's got a big leg, but has been inconsistent. The Bills are hoping if he focuses on one thing the consistency issue will resolve itself.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I haven't been able to to get **** in the draft and FA. I like the OP's post. I would add the need for a TE, and RB at some point.

I think CB and WR is very hard to transition from college to the NFL. I would resign White as quickly as possible, sign a stud FA and draft one. I don't see any WR FA worth big money. The other area I would look to FA to fill a need is either LBer and/or DE. I would resign Shaq for the right price and draft the position. If we can sign a CB, LBer/DE. This would free us up to go BPA. As I always say OT, OT, DE and WR, RB, TE LB in no particular order after OT.

I'm not overly concerned about RB. Singletary will be the #1. Finding backup or backups shouldn't be hard. Heck, they have Yeldon still, who might just end up being the #2 guy.

Re: My Dream Offseason: Here's what I would do if I was GM (yeah right)

I'm good with 1, 2 and 4, Poyer, Shaq and White.

Past that I move Feliciano to LG and anchor him there, he's started 13 games at that position. Long is my backup center. I start Bates at RG, Ford at RT, Nsekhe is swing tackle, OL is done.

Edge rusher is critical this draft, they need to find one and lock him in on rookie money for 4 years. That means no FA. That's building for sustained success.

I don't bother with TE, Knox and Sweeney are young, and upside, goodbye Lee Smith, we're stuck with Kroft.

My draft priorities, because they don't want to use Duke Williams, and Foster is right the hell out of here imho, is big mobile WR, edge, thunder RB for the rotation, LB to replace Lorax, then you go depth.

Boettger at guard and Joseph at LB, Wallace and Johnson at DB are in the pipeline and they'd better be there for a reason.

They theoretically have future payoff in enough young players to not goof around replacing them unless their draft scouts are useless. That means Knox, Allen, Singletary, Edmunds, Dawkins in the 4th year of a program, Ford, Neal, Oliver should be locks, FA's Poyer and Hyde, Morse, Feliciano, Brown and Beasley should be too. The last critical pieces are young edge rusher, big WR (though I'm not convinced we don't already have him) and bruiser young RB.

WR's and DB's are a dime a dozen with college air raid offenses, this should not be a concern.

They NEED rookie draft contract starters if this is going anywhere. They need to prove they can draft people, or it's perpetual find and overpay a band aid until we're up against the cap with old guys again. Imho, their scouting seriously needs to step up for the "unified vision", because this is the 4th year of counting on other people's draft picks to hold ours up.
I lost a bet with Pink and all I got was this dumb avatar that I've had awhile anyway.

Re: My Dream Offseason: Here's what I would do if I was GM (yeah right)

We obviously need a Line Backer to replace Alexander, a backup RB to replace Gore, a Pass Rusher, a big fast WR, and a Right Tackle to allow Ford to move to Guard, where he is far better suited. I am not as concerned about CB. but we should probably create some competition across from White. I would like to re-sign Jordan Phillips, too. I would at least bring in a punter and place kicker to compete for jobs. Haushka seems to have lost some leg strength.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

What do the Bills do with Star Lotulelei?

Remember that the Bills have Harrison Phillips and Corey Liuget. All three are 1-techs.

These numbers might determine some futures:

Trent Murphy ($8.95 cap hit / $1.75M dead cap)
Spencer Long ($4.1M cap hit / $700k dead cap)
Star Lotulelei ($10.1M cap hit / $7.8M dead cap)
Tyler Kroft ($6.4M cap hit / $1.6M dead cap)
Lee Smith ($3.25M cap hit / $1M dead cap)
Steven Hauschka ($3M cap hit / $1.25M dead cap)
Pat Dimcarco ($2.35M cap hit / $500k dead cap)
Andre Roberts ($2M cap hit / $500k dead cap)
TJ Yeldon ($1.9M cap hit / $250K dead cap)

Who are you willing to part with?

We keep him because his dead cap is too high. Liuget isn't going to be back, I bet.

After a little research here would be my target FA's not on our roster right now, I've listed two per position and would be happy with either player in no particular order or priority:

Edge: Donte Flowers Rams/Shaq Barrett TB Yes I would like Yannick Ngakoue but I think he'll cost way to much!
*CB: Byron Jones Dallas/Matthew Jones. Hard position to do well as a rookie
OL: Anthony Cantonzo Indy/Jack Conklin Tenn
TE: Auston Hooper ATL. Henry when healthy is great, but always injured
DL: Chris Jones KC/Jarran Reed Seattle
*WR: Amari Copper/AJ Green (for the right Price), Hard position to do well as a rookie

I realize we couldn't sign them all but if this is "dream off season" this would be a good dream!

If we were able to get a couple of these positions, I'd be happy! I guess to stay consistent, I would sign a CB, WR first because of the trouble go frm college to the NFL.

Imo, they keep Star for 2020 but good chance they move on from him in 2021.
Harrison Phillips is coming back from injury, they may not know for sure how healthy he will be until Training Camp.
Corey Liuget is a free agent, more of a depth player imo and not as good as Star.

I gave Starr a lot of crap at the start of the season. He actually played pretty well the 2nd half of the year. I'm ok with him staying. I also wouldn't be shocked/upset if he got cut.
