China coronavirus: Beijing confirms human-to-human transmission of deadly virus

China has confirmed the first examples of the deadly Wuhan Coronavirus spreading from human to human, with medical workers currently among the infected.

More than 200 cases of the disease have been confirmed so far with instances also being reported in Japan, Thailand and South Korea.

Believed to have originated in a seafood market in Wuhan, central China, the illness potentially marks the seventh coronavirus known to science which can infect humans – a grouping which includes SARS and MERS.

The head of a Chinese government expert team, Zhong Nanshan, said two people in Guangdong province in southern China caught the disease from family members, according to state-controlled English language newspaper China Daily.

The National Health Commission task force also found that some medical workers have tested positive for the virus.

On Monday it was revealed a British tourist in Thailand is among those feared to have been infected by the pneumonia-style virus.

Concern over the further spread of the virus has led to stringent checks at airports – with medical officials seen in hazmat suits boarding aeroplanes due to leave Wuhan to test for the illness and US airports screening travellers from the city.

Meanwhile the outbreak has continued on to more cities within China's borders including Shanghai and Beijing.

Ahead of the announcement president Xi Jinping said that it’s “extremely crucial” to take every possible measure to combat the illness.

“The recent outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan and other places must be taken seriously,” Mr Xi said, according to national broadcaster CCTV.

Party committees, governments and relevant departments at all levels should put people’s lives and health first.”
Imperial College's MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis estimated that as of 12 January there were likely 1,723 cases in Wuhan City with related symptoms.

Chinese health authorities have not commented directly on the report.

Jeremy Farrar, a specialist in infectious disease epidemics and director of the Wellcome Trust global health charity, said: “This outbreak is extremely concerning. Uncertainty and gaps remain, but it is now clear that there is person to person transmission.

He added: “Wuhan is a major hub and with travel being a huge part of the fast approaching Chinese New Year, the concern level must remain high.

“There is more to come from this outbreak.”

Ah this year's "We're All Gonna Die" event. Tell ya what, get a flu shot, reduce your salts and fats and processed sugars, get some excercise, stop smoking, reduce or cut off the alcohol and say a kind word because Influenza, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, depression, and complications are all much bigger cancers than these are. Oh, and vaccinate the kids, easily preventable childhood diseases are making a come back because people will not get their kids a couple shots. I mean I am sure this virus out of China will kill a lot of people, but its nothing compared to the diseases I have mentioned in this post.

The (3) US airports that flights from China land at are screening all passangers before entry.

Of course, any deaths from the virus make it one to be concerned about. There's much that hasn't been established yet, particularly questions about who is vulnerable? As it spreads, trends will develop. Maybe young persons will be most vulnerable, or on the other end of the spectrum, maybe those who are elderly. Having had part of a lung removed, I know I have to be wary about anything that can affect the lungs. The flu put me in the hospital when I was recovering from my lung surgery. We'll also learn just how deadly the virus can be. So far, the mortality rate has been about 2%, but the sample size is way too small, and there hasn't been nearly enough time for reliable trends to develop. If only a few hundred in the US ever come down with the disease and only a handful die from it, it certainly won't be considered statistically significant in the grand scheme of things, but it someone among your family and friends is one of the victims, the statistics aren't worth much.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

Many scientist are not feeling good about Chinas statistics. They also don't have anything to fight off this current infection.

Taiwan just announced it is banning travel to and from Wuhan China to Taiwan.

They’ve added Atlanta and a couple of additional airports as well. I think Chicago was another.

It's really too much work for me to track what's going on with this virus.
