    Re: Impeachment Trial Thread

I have a challenge for all those who are denigrating the trial we're seeing and who say Trump hasn't done anything wrong. If, as you say, this is all a farce...then it should be pretty easy to prove the president's integrity. Hold the trial. Present your evidence. Call ALL the witnesses involved. Make them testify under oath. Get every last bit out in the open.

Hell, Hillary Clinton did it...for 11 hours. And she so thoroughly shut down the BS around Benghazi that even Trey Gowdy...who was promoting it more than any one else on the Republican side...had to admit she did nothing wrong. If she can do this, then so can Trump.

But all the Republicans are doing is attacking the accuser. Saying "nothing happened." They won't play it straight. They can't. And they don't dare do so.

Because....Trump. Is. Guilty. And. They. Know. It.

Nothing says election tampering like (trying ) removing a sitting president right before his re-election bid.

as far as the trial... when is it back live... I’ve seen this same stuff for 3 days now.

I hear Schiff has been quoting a lot of the founding fathers and their writings, so my question is, has anything else been going on, or is this just going to end 47 votes for impeachment to 53 against even if footage emerged of Trump talking with Putin and saying okay Volodya, the social media campaign worked as did the voting machine hackings, and I am reporting for duty lets burn this bitch down?

Oh, BULL****! All that would happen if Trump was removed from office is that Mike Pence would become president. The election result would NOT change.

    Stop falling for that crap.

Just my opinion, but the point of these three days is to make the case for additional documents and witnesses which will be voted on by the Senate next week. Democrats have done a pretty good job of showing how they weren't able to get everything due to obstruction from the Administration and they are targeting a group of six GOP senators. One, Collins, has already said she'd vote in favor of witnesses, if they get three more then they may get Bolton and Mulvaney on the stand, which could change votes.

Their arguments wrap today and then the President's defense team has three days to present their case starting tomorrow. Then we have 18 hours of written questions that can be submitted by the jury.

    Re: Impeachment Trial Thread

Last night during the closing presentation, Alan Dershowitz made a comment where he said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that even if Trump withheld the aid from Ukraine for investigations that it wouldn't be impeachable. He went on to argue that the framers did not intend for an abuse of power to be an impeachable offense.

It's rare that two sides agree on something, but nobody seems to disagree that the Constitution intended to hold tyrannical abuses as grounds for impeachment. The question becomes whether Trump's action here met that standard.

Dershowitz, to his credit, has been clear about this position for a long time and despite his background is a well regarded constitutional lawyer. He believes that even if the Democrats were to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Trump did what he did it's not a criminal behavior and therefor not impeachable. However, there are other expert who disagree with that, specifically Duke Professor Lisa Griffin, who says that the Constitution does not require that a criminal offense be committed in order for impeachment to occur and cites that nowhere in Article II, Section 4 is there language that specifically narrows the scope to only criminal behavior.

This seems to be the crux upon which the GOP is relying on for their argument. There no longer saying Trump absolutely did not withhold the aid, they're now saying even if he did it's not criminal and not impeachable.

Dershowitz is an idiot. His credibility has been in tatters for decades now.
