Reinhart calls out Sabres; owners frustrated

Reinhart calls out Sabres; owners frustrated

Sabres forward Sam Reinhart, who scored the team's lone goal in a 6-1 loss to Colorado on Tuesday, called out his teammates after the blowout loss, which left Buffalo 11 points back of a playoff spot.

"I think it's all coming down to the players at this point," Reinhart told reporters. "I think that the systems and the game plans that are set out for us give us an opportunity to have success. I think it goes back to what I'm trying to preach here. Guys need to demand more out of themselves, and a lot of guys need to step the hell up."

The Sabres trailed 2-1 after 20 minutes on Tuesday, but allowed four goals in the first 13 minutes of the second period.

“Today was s---,” defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen said after the game. “I never thought I'd have to say this, but I had a lot of these games here. They're not fun to play. No one wants to play games like we had tonight.”

Goaltender Carter Hutton allowed five goals on 13 shots in Tuesday's loss, but Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger refused to place the blame on Hutton, despite the team only being outshot 27-24 on the night.

"I don't think it's fair to put this on Carter," Krueger said. "People look at the shot clock, but they out-chanced us, they out-chanced us even though the shots were quite equal there. It wouldn't be fair to put this one on him; it's all of us - coaches, players - all of us together. This is on all of us. We need to pull together and react to this. We have a game here at home in two nights (against the Detroit Red Wings). We need to show a different side, for sure."

The blowout loss came just hours after Sabres general manager Jason Botterill told WGR Radio in Buffalo that owners Terry and Kim Pegula are unhappy with the team's performance.

“I can understand our fans’ frustration,” Botterill said. “To put it bluntly, my conversations with Terry and Kim, they’re frustrated with the results. They want better results. Our dialogue, we’re in constant dialogue, the dialogue goes to, ‘What are the solutions? What are we doing to get better?'”

The Sabres have missed the playoffs in each of the past eight seasons and last won a playoff round in 2007.

Sammy and Risto are trying to get traded.

Fridays game at MSG should be fun.

Botterill is getting fired, What can he do?

He has 23 thousand in cap space.

And a handful of un-moveable contracts.

Elliott Friedman said Botts tried moving Bogo and Rodriguez but no one wanted the "contract"

    Vesey won't get anything.

You could try Sheary and hope the return plays better?

Unless Buffalo parts with its draft picks and prospects, They will not upgrade the overall team.

To what end? This team needs more help than trading our draft picks will get us. It's mortgaging the future to win now when we won't win now anyway.

I wouldn't do much if anything at the deadline and just ride it out.

Unless someone called about Skinner and his $9m AAV.

The free agent class is really weak this year.

And it will be hard for Buffalo to convince players to sign when other teams are in competition.

If the Sabres do look to actually upgrade, A trade maybe the only option.

And futures would have to be used, This franchise has to make the post season next year.

Until we have a #1 goalie we aren't going anywhere near the playoffs. UPL might be that guy but he's a few seasons away from being NHL ready.

The other option is reclamation projects. But that's a lot harder.

The Oilers wanna trade puljukakkakjajajj... if you can get him for a second or a third with a prospect, do it.

This, in a nutshell, is the problem. More Tim Murray hangover. Botterill hasn't done enough to dig out from that. He couldn't afford to make a single slip up. And there's been a couple. And they don't draft too well still. And they generally don't develop players too well. I'm hoping to see more out of Olofsson, Asplund and Pilut however.
    Welcome to Buffalo Henri Jokiharju

    Purge to country of conservatives.

No one is going to call about Skinner. He doesn't look good since he's been back.

also he has nothing around him. It's easy to put up numbers playing next to Eichel, not so easy when he's the main guy on the line.

Kruger may want to get the band back together. Right now we have 1 good line, one mediocre line and 2 bad lines. I'd almost rather have one great line and 3 bad lines.
