Draft Analyst Thinks Bills 1st Pick Doesn't Have to be WR

By keeping an open mind, Marino thinks it's possible the Bills wait for a wide receiver till the second round due to talent and what's available in the first round. "I think the most meaningful thing that the Bills can do in the draft is to give Josh Allen a playmaker and somebody that can help this offense become more consistent," Marino said. "If there's one there that doesn't meet the value, I do look back towards the defense and think alright get an impact pass rusher or is there an impact corner to play opposite of Tre White. That's where my mind goesówide receiver, defensive end, cornerback."

It has to be. WE already decided.

Re: Draft Analyst Thinks Bills 1st Pick Doesn't Have to be WR

I'm still incredibly skeptical that we can simply draft our solution at WR. I mean, we can if you don't mind waiting a year or two. But to expect a rookie WR to come and be the difference between a deep playoff team and a one and done (or not even making it) team is a bit foolhardy. WRs are notorious for taking time to develop. Randy Moss's don't grow on trees and the ones that make an immediate impact like D.K. Metcalf usually come with a Drew Breese.

Josh Allen is not Drew Breese. He has a chance to be that kind of QB but he's not even remotely close to what he'd need to be yet to consistently make a rookie WR have a huge impact in year one. I know there aren't a ton of amazing options in FA, but if we want to solve our big bodied pass catching target problem in 2020 it's likely going to take more than just a draft pick or two.

Well...it all depends on what's available at #22, and what is expected to be available at #54 in the second round. If the Bills can address our WR need in FA, then that certainly has an effect...big time.

These decisions are what make, or break, a team's GM and coaching regime.

Trying to sit here as fans and telling professional scouts, GM & coaches in the NFL what is the best to do, really is rather silly. Those people eat, sleep and live prospects and strategy as a career...with their jobs (and BIG money) on the line.

Our jobs as fans is to heckle them from the sidelines....and bitch and moan with 20-20 hindsight when a prospect does not pan out.

    ****...I'd rather be a fan!!

It'll depend on where the value is. If a defensive end drops that Beane considers a compelling value, He could well be the choice. I happen to think there are several WRs who could be at least a good value at #22, and one or 2 of those will likely still be available, but Brandon Beane could disagree with me. He'd be wrong, but he's the one with the power in the war room. LOL
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I’ve always liked BPA, especially that low in the draft. But because we are that low, it can put more pressure on the actual decision makers and cause them to reach for a need. If the BPA is a friggin OT or DE, great if you ask me! NFL games are win and lost in the trenches. Build the team inside out.

Patience isn't exciting but I hope we are just that.

Wish free agency was here so we can see what they address prior to the draft. That being said I really hope we address FA in both draft and FA...

Free Agency can't get here soon enough for me.
