NFLPA executive committee votes 6-5 Against recommending CBA proposal

After NFL owners approved a proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement on Thursday, attention shifted to players as they need to approve any deal before it can go into place.
The NFL Players Association is holding a conference call with player representatives to discuss the deal on Friday and the unionís executive committee has already held a vote about whether or not to recommend accepting the deal.

The NFLPA would vote against Mothers Day, if the owners brought it up.

It must not be that bad of a deal if the vote was that close. They should be able to get things worked out.

The players have not fared well in the public eye if there is a strike or the negotiation get ugly. Hard to feel sorry for uneducated multi millionaires complaining they're underpaid.

I would have been more surprised if it was settled this quickly and quietly.

The pubic response I saw to this deal was incredibly supportive of the players rejecting it.

You should actually read what I wrote, to clear it up for you I said "players have not fared well in the public eye if there is a strike or the negotiation get ugly" I didn't say anything about the current offer. Hopefully that helps.

Heck ya they would have been stupid to take the first offer!

Remove the 17th game. Problem solved.

No. It's either one fewer pre-season game and a 17th game or it stays the way it is.

What makes you think that the players objection to this proposed CBA is the extra game?

If the money to the players went up proportionally, I am sure the players would agree to a 18 game regular season with a 2 game pre-season (possibly combined with joint practices for both pre-season game).

Unless you think the starters enjoy only playing a small portion of the current 4 game pre-season or some cases not at all?

I suspect it is all about money and the more regular season games you add the more the revenu should go up to be shared.

I would think the players want bigger rosters and an increased salary if they are going to be playing 2 more regular season games.

There's no way the owners are going to give up a preseason game without getting a game to replace it. That's revenue lost by both sides. Yeah preseason is boring, etc, but it still brings in revenue.

If I'm a player, I don't want increased regular season unless my pay is going to increase by at least 6 percent per game added.

the extra regular season game is to make the math work on more teams
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

Because a) they've been against an extra game for a long time now and b) the vote was so close. And the money they get is based on a percentage of revenue so it obviously would go up with an extra game, but it's not worth the extra wear-and-tear.

The owner’s vote on the proposal was not unanimous so there is at least one team who might think the owners are giving up too much. We’ll see how it shakes out.
