Eric DeCosta "hopeful" to get deal done with Lamar Jackson before franchise tag deadline - ProFootballTalk

The clock is ticking on the Ravens and Lamar Jackson as the quarterback approaches unrestricted free agency at the start of the new league year this month.
Of course, no one really expects Jackson to simply hit the open market because the Ravens would presumably use the franchise tag.
At his Combine press conference on Wednesday, General Manager Eric DeCosta said the team has not decided if it would use the exclusive or non-exclusive franchise tag with Jackson. But DeCosta also said, “We’re hopeful that we’ll get a deal done with Lamar before that happens.”

Indianapolis hopes to keep Scouting Combine beyond 2024 - ProFootballTalk

A move to a larger market has seemed inevitable for several years. Although it hasn’t happened, Indy had to submit a bid for the first time, in order to retain the event for 2023 and 2024. After 2024, the Combine will be a free agent, again.
Via WISH-TV, the powers-that-be in Indy are trying to generate more fan involvement in the hopes of fulfilling the league’s goal of making the event bigger.
“As we look to our current bid that was one of our main pieces,” Visit Indy senior communications manager Nate Swick told WISH-TV. “We said, ‘All right, NFL, how do you want to grow this and how can we help you grow this event?’ And so that’s why you’ll see a lot more fan interactions the last couple of years.

Chris Ballard on what it would take to move up to No. 1 in draft- That this is no freaking doubt the guy - ProFootballTalk

The Bears will listen to offers for the No. 1 overall pick. It’s what every team does that has the first selection, especially those that aren’t in the market for a quarterback.
The Colts draft fourth, two spots behind their division rivals in the Texans, who also are in need of a quarterback. So, it’s natural for everyone to wonder whether the Colts will attempt to leap frog Houston.
Colts General Manager Chris Ballard pumped the brakes on speculation of a move up the draft board.
“I know this was coming up, because I know all the speculation out there,” Ballard said. “One, to move up, there’s got to be a guy worthy of it. This is what’s great right now: Everybody has just automatically stamped that you’ve got to move up to one to get it right. I don’t know if I agree with that. I don’t. But that’s going to be the narrative, and that’s OK. . . . But I don’t know if that’s the right course of business. When we meet as a staff and we say, ‘OK, this is what we need to do. This is the guy for the next 10 to 15 years,’ and we think he’s the right guy, sure we’ll do it. But who’s to say we won’t get one at four?”

NFL is "pleased" with ruling in Brian Flores case - ProFootballTalk

Well, maybe there won’t be any appeals of Wednesday’s mixed-bag ruling in the Brian Flores litigation.
In a statement provided earlier this evening to PFT, the NFL seems to indicate that it will proceed to arbitration with the claims that will be arbitrated, and that it will proceed to litigation with the claims that will be litigated.

Report- Jaguars are expected to use franchise tag on Evan Engram - ProFootballTalk

Tight end Evan Engram said recently that he and the Jaguars have had positive conversations about a new contract, but it doesn’t look like they are going to pay off in a new deal before next Tuesday.
That’s the deadline for the Jaguars to use their franchise tag and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Jaguars are expected to do that in order to keep Engram from hitting the open market. Engram would be in line for a $11.345 million salary under the terms of the tag and the two sides would have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal.

Report- Buccaneers are expected to release Cameron Brate - ProFootballTalk

It looks like tight end Cameron Brate‘s run with the Buccaneers is coming to an end.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Bucs are expected to release Brate in the coming days. He has been with the team since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2014.

Doug Pederson- Next step for Trevor Lawrence is in the leadership role - ProFootballTalk

When the Scouting Combine took place last year, Doug Pederson had just been hired as the Jaguars head coach and one of the biggest questions the team faced was how quarterback Trevor Lawrence would bounce back from a dismal rookie season amid the Urban Meyer disaster.
It took a little time for things to fall into place, but Lawrence and the Jaguars got into a groove over the final months of the season and advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs. During a press conference at the Scouting Combine this week, Pederson was asked what Lawrence has to do after making a leap in his second NFL season.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara and Bengals cornerback Chris Lammons entered not guilty pleas to battery charges in a Las Vegas courtroom on Thursday.
Kamara, Lammons and two other men were indicted by a grand jury last month on two charges — one count of conspiracy to commit battery gross misdemeanor and one count of battery substantial bodily harm felony — as a result of an incident in February 2022. A jury trial is set to begin in July.

Josh McDaniels- We'd love for Josh Jacobs to continue being a Raider - ProFootballTalk

Running back Josh Jacobs has expressed a desire to stay with Las Vegas on a deal that makes sense for him.
The Raiders have also said they’d like to keep Jacobs around for 2023. And they have the tool to do so with the franchise tag if the two parties can’t come to a long-term agreement before March 7 to keep him off the open market.

Dan Campbell- If anyone can get things turned around in Denver, it's Sean Payton - ProFootballTalk

At the Combine this week, Campbell said Payton returning to lead the Broncos did not surprise him.
“I felt like he just needed a breather, he needed a change of scenery. I had a feeling he would be back,” Campbell said in his press conference. “I didn’t know when that was going to be, but I would say this, he looks rejuvenated. He definitely looks rejuvenated.
“So, if anybody can get that thing turned around there it’s him.”
Payton has a tough job in fixing the Broncos, starting with quarterback Russell Wilson. But his extensive experience with crafting strong offenses should at least put Denver in a better position to win more games in 2023.

The Texans have re-signed long snapper Jon Weeks to a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday. Aaron Wilson of KPRC reports the deal is worth $1.65 million and includes $153,000 to sign.
Weeks, 37, is the team’s longest-tenured player, having arrived in 2010. He has never missed a game, playing a franchise-record 210 consecutive games.

John Harbaugh- I think Jim Harbaugh is probably at Michigan for life - ProFootballTalk

In the last two years, former 49ers head coach — and current University of Michigan head coach — Jim Harbaugh has drawn serious interest to become a head coach again at the NFL level.
Harbaugh said late last month that he’s planning to be at Michigan as long as the program wants him. But it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Harbaugh is in the mix for another pro job next year.

Chiefs planning conversations with Chris Jones, Frank Clark about contracts - ProFootballTalk

For General Manager Brett Veach, that process will include thinking about options involving defensive tackle Chris Jones and defensive end Frank Clark. Both players are set have cap numbers north of $28 million in 2023 and their lack of guaranteed salaries mean that the Chiefs would gain significant cap room if they were to move on this offseason.

C.J. Stroud- I don't want to go to the Bears; that's Justin Fields' team - ProFootballTalk

C.J. Stroud could be the No. 1 overall selection, but if he is, the Ohio State quarterback hopes it’s not the Bears that draft him.
The Bears have Justin Fields, the 11th overall choice in 2021. Fields was the starting quarterback at Ohio State in 2019 and 2020, with Stroud serving as his backup in 2020.

One of the most anticipated height and weight measurements ever at the NFL Scouting Combine will come Saturday. That’s when Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, potentially the No. 1 overall selection, will step on the scale and stand against the wall.
Alabama listed Young at 6 foot, but he is believed to be around 5-10 1/2.

Clemson edge rusher Myles Murphy grew up dreaming of sacking Tom Brady. He’ll never get the chance.
Murphy told PFT Live at the Scouting Combine that the quarterback he always wanted to sack was Brady, but unless Brady comes out of retirement, that’s not going to happen. Murphy said Bills quarterback Josh Allen would now be the quarterback he’d most love to sack.
