Raiders sign Greg Van Roten - ProFootballTalk

Van Roten, 33, spent last season with the Bills. He appeared in all 16 of the club’s regular-season games with four starts. He played 33 percent of the team’s offensive snaps and 19 percent of special teams snaps.
Van Roten entered the league as an undrafted player out of Penn back in 2012 with the Packers. He spent a couple of years playing for the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL before making his way back to the NFL in 2017.

Miami hopes to fend off L.A. for Super Bowl LXI - ProFootballTalk

“We obviously want to get a game back to Miami,” South Florida Super Bowl bid committee chairman Rodney Barreto told Habib. “We believe we had a very successful last Super Bowl and the world shut down after that Super Bowl.”
Miami hosted the Super Bowl in February 2020. The Chiefs defeated the 49ers in the 54th installment of the game.
The NFL changed the procedures several years ago to avoid direct competition among cities for specific Super Bowls. Now, the league pursues a specific city, outlines its demands, and waits to see whether the city accepts.
Habib’s report suggests either that the approach has been tweaked, or that Demoff and the Rams are trying to horn in on a process that is supposed to no longer pit city against city, year after year, forcing those places that inevitably lose out on the game to waste time, money, and effort to secure it.

Brian Davis's company seeks $500 billion over failed Commanders purchase - ProFootballTalk

In most civil cases, a specific figure is not required in the opening complaint. Damages will be determined through the proceedings. Usually when a dollar amount is demanded — especially a high one — it’s for publicity purposes. And a $500 billion demand will generate plenty of publicity.
The more relevant number, for now, is $5 billion. That’s the amount of the bank draft that allegedly was tendered to Bank of America by Urban Echo. As noted by sports betting attorney Daniel Wallach, the $5 billion apparently comes from the Estate of Severino Garcia Sta. Romana. As also noted by Wallach, research regarding the Estate of Severino Garcia Sta. Romana quickly leads to an “incredible tale of large quantities of gold illegally acquired by former Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos from a CIA operative.”

Ja'Marr Chase responds to claim Bengals-Bills playoff game would have been different in a dome - ProFootballTalk

“The Bengals ran basic routes, maybe we should’ve did that, ran basic routes,” McKenzie said, via SI.com. “Like out routes, go balls, you know, instead of running routes that you have to be going lateral or coming back to the football, or turning and running curls and things like that. If we were in a dome it would have been a totally different game.”
That’s an indictment of the coaching, frankly. The game planning. The adaptability to the circumstances.
Of course, the game could have been played in a dome if the NFL had decided, as it did for a potential Bills-Chiefs AFC Championship, to give the Bengals a fair shake and send the postseason contest to a neutral site. That didn’t happen, and it’s on the Bills to construct a roster and an approach that makes the elements in January an positive, not a negative.
Meanwhile, Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase has dismissed McKenzie’s claim.
Chase said on Twitter, via Dave Clark of the Cincinnati Enquirer, that it was “my first time ever playing in a snow bro” and that you’ve “just gotta play at the end of the day.”

Could the Raiders decide to trade Davante Adams after June 1? - ProFootballTalk

But let’s not forget June 1. The Raiders could, in theory, trade Adams after June 1, limited the cap charge to $7.85 million this year and $23.6 million in 2024. Alternatively, he could be traded after June 1, 2024, once again cutting the cap charge to $7.85 million, and kicking $15.7 million to 2025.
Adams has a manageable salary of $6.03 million in 2023; he already has received a $20 million roster bonus. If Adams’s agitation is enough to get the Raiders to move on, they could do so with a reasonable cap consequence this year, and a larger (but not crippling) one in 2024.
The money that makes up the $31.4 million in total cap charges has already been spent. It’s gone. Those cap dollars will count against the Raiders’ cap, sooner or later.

John Mara "disappointed, but certainly not surprised" NFL will flex games to Thursday - ProFootballTalk

Giants owner John Mara has been perhaps the most vocal critic within the league of the movement to expand the flexible schedule to Thursday Night Football, and when that became official on Monday, Mara wasn’t happy about it.
Mara said he stands by the previous criticism he has made that moving one game from Sunday to Thursday, and another game from Thursday to Sunday, is “abusive” to fans.

Andy Dalton on Bryce Young- You can tell really early on, he's got it - ProFootballTalk

The Panthers have put a strong support system around rookie quarterback Bryce Young, including veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton.
After spending 2022 with the Saints, Dalton, 35, is in tow to help ease Young’s transition to the league as a mentor — a role he’s embracing. Dalton noted to reporters during his Monday press conference that Young will be the Panthers’ QB1 sooner than later.

Andy Reid on kickoff changes- Eventually you'll be playing flag football - ProFootballTalk

The NFL’s obsession with making the game safer has its limits. At some point, it stops football from being football.

In the aftermath of the most recent revisions to the kickoff, Chiefs coach Andy Reid made that observation when asked about the new rule that allows the receiving team on a kickoff to make a fair catch and get the ball at the 25.

“I don’t know,” Reid told reporters, via John Dixon of ArrowheadPride.com. “We’ll have to go through all that. My thing is, ‘Where does it stop?’ Right?

“So you start taking pieces [away] — and we’ll see how this goes — but you don’t want to take too many pieces away. You’ll be playing flag football.”

Source- 2022 injury data for turf fields was "awful" - ProFootballTalk

NFL players want all playing surfaces to be grass, not turf. The NFL prefers to let teams play on artificial surfaces, if they so choose.
The debate has intensified in recent months. A Tuesday night feature on HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel addressed the situation, focusing on how the use of turf has trickled down to the high-school level, causing an “epidemic” of injuries.

As more players who technically represent themselves apparently use burner email accounts that their non-certified agents use to communicate directly with teams while posing as the player, some teams are deciding not to communicate with self-represented players via email.
Per a league source, multiple teams have been shying away from sending emails to and from receiver DeAndre Hopkins, given the possibility that they’ll be communicating not with Hopkins but with a non-certified agent who is pretending to be Hopkins. Instead, those teams insist on talking directly to Hopkins — and only Hopkins.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is in line for a contract extension and he said recently that he’s been “pretty clear on what I want” in his discussions with the team, but nothing has been finalized at this point.
Those discussions have involved Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin and executive vice president Katie Blackburn as well. Tobin made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show last week and Burrow’s contract was a topic of conversation.

The Miami Dolphins already boasted speed at receiver with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, two of the fastest players in the NFL. Then the Fins went out and drafted running back Devon Achane, who blazed a 4.32 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

"Man, it's like a race car game," cornerback Xavien Howard told Aaron Wilson of KCRP Houston over the weekend at Hill's youth football camp. "You just see speed going, quick and fast. Especially after adding this guy (Achane) to our running backs. It's good going against the competition and going against these two guys.

"The speed, it's a lot. You can't coach speed. Especially playing cornerback, it helps out a lot. You can't put me in this. I just got good technique. These guys are fast, though."

Amid plenty of speculation that soon-to-be Raiders owner Tom Brady could eventually become Raiders quarterback Tom Brady, Brady has put the matter to rest. We think.
In an interview with Robin Lundberg of SINow, Brady was asked this question: “What is your message to those fans, the media, whoever it is, that’s constantly concocting a way for you to come back?”
Said Brady, “I’m certain I’m not playing again. So I’ve tried to make that clear and I hate to continue to profess that because I’ve already told people that lots of times.”

The window is open for a Dalvin Cook trade - ProFootballTalk

So where will Cook go? If there’s a team that will pay him the $10.4 million he’s due to make this year — and to give the Vikings something for the contract — the deal could be done. As soon as today.
Still, regardless of any analytics-based justification for moving on from Cook, the Vikings will miss him. And his next team could end up being very glad to have him.
