Bengals put Chidobe Awuzie, La'el Collins on PUP list - NBC Sports
Awuzie missed the final nine weeks of the regular season and the postseason with a torn ACL. Word this spring was that he was on track to be ready for the season opener, but it remains to be soon when he’ll get the green light for a full workload.
Collins also tore his ACL last year and he also tore other ligaments in his knee when he was injured in December. The Bengals signed Orlando Brown Jr. this offseason and the plan is for him to start at left tackle with Jonah Williams moving to the right side. If Collins is healthy enough to get on the field in camp, he could compete with Williams for the job.
Giants, Saquon Barkley agree to one-year contract worth slightly more than franchise tag - NBC Sports
Although the guaranteed pay on Barkley’s deal is the same as the $10.1 million he would have made by signing the tender, the Giants agreed to add $900,000 in incentives so that Barkley can earn up to $11 million, and to pay $2 million up front now, rather than make Barkley wait until the regular season starts to begin earning his salary.
Under NFL rules, Barkley can’t sign a long-term contract with the Giants this season, but he can sign a one-year deal that differs from the franchise tender, and that’s exactly what he’s done. Just days after Barkley indicated that he was angry with the team and considering sitting out, the Giants have made him happy.
Bill Belichick- Jack Jones will be out there at training camp - NBC Sports
Patriots cornerback Jack Jones was arrested in June for attempting to bring a pair of guns onto a plane, but his legal issues are not impacting his availability for training camp.
Jones’ attorney said that he was almost “fired” by the team after the arrest because the media painted the cornerback in an unfavorable light. The Patriots didn’t cut him, however, and head coach Bill Belichick said on Tuesday that the team expects to have Jones on the field for their first practice of camp on Wednesday.
Chase Claypool passes physical - NBC Sports
The Bears removed receiver Chase Claypool from the active/physically unable to perform list on Monday after he passed his physical, the team announced.
That makes him eligible to participate in the Bears’ first training camp practice Wednesday at Halas Hall.
The Bears placed Claypool on active/PUP on Sunday. He had a soft tissue injury that kept him out for most of the offseason program but was working with quarterback Justin Fields and other teammates in Florida earlier this month.
In seven game appearances with Chicago after the trade from Pittsburgh, Claypool caught only 14 passes for 140 yards.
Teddy Bridgewater visits Lions - NBC Sports
The Lions hosted veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on a free agent visit Monday, according to the NFL’s transactions wire.
Bridgewater is one of the top remaining free agents.
In April, a report indicated the Lions had a “strong offer” for Bridgewater on the table. If Bridgewater signs with Detroit, it would mean a reunion with head coach Dan Campbell, who was the Saints’ tight ends coach/assistant head coach in 2018-19 when Bridgewater was in New Orleans.
The Lions have Jared Goff as their starter and re-signed backup Nate Sudfeld this offseason. Adrian Martinez also is on the roster. The team drafted Hendon Hooker, but he is expected to miss the season while rehabbing a torn ACL.
Packers work out Jacob Eason - NBC Sports
The Packers worked out free agent quarterback Jacob Eason on Tuesday, according to the NFL’s personnel notice.
Eason has remained a free agent since the Panthers cut him in May.
The Colts made Eason a fourth-round pick in 2020, but he has played only two regular-season games. He appeared in one game for the Colts in 2021 and one game for the Panthers in 2022.
Eason is 5-of-10 for 84 yards with two interceptions and a 39.2 passer rating in his career.
He also has spent time with the Seahawks and 49ers.
