JuJu Smith-Schuster- Andy Reid recruited me by texting me Lombardi Trophy pictures

After briefly testing free agency, JuJu Smith-Schuster decided to re-sign with the Steelers this offseason. But Chiefs coach Andy Reid had a tempting approach to try to get Smith-Schuster to Kansas City.
Smith-Schuster said Reid wanted him to know he had a great chance to win a Super Bowl ring in Kansas City, and so Reid texted Smith-Schuster pictures of the Lombardi Trophy in an attempt to try to get him to sign with the Chiefs.
BUFFALO was also active signing veteran free agents from other teams: quarterback Mitchell Trubisky (Bears), wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders (Saints) and Brandon Powell (Falcons), tight end Jake Hollister (Seahawks), running back Matt Breida (Dolphins), offensive tackles Bobby Hart (Bengals) and Jamil Douglas (Titans), guard Forrest Lamp (Chargers), defensive end Efe Obada (Panthers), linebackers Tyrell Adams (Texans) and Marquel Lee (Raiders) and punter Matt Haack (Dolphins).

The Billsí current roster consists of four quarterbacks, five tight ends, six running backs, 10 wide receivers, 12 offensive linemen, four safeties, six defensive tackles (including Star Lotulelei, who opted out of last season due to Covid concerns), six cornerbacks, seven defensive ends, eight linebackers and three specialists.

Eagles OT Johnson embracing competition, injury rehab

Lane Johnson's ankle injury ended his season prematurely in 2020, and at 30 years old, it's fair to wonder whether it may have given the league a peek into his future.

He might also receive an unavoidable reminder of it at the end of the month.

"They may draft another offensive tackle. They got guys coming for me," Johnson said of the Eagles in a recent interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer. ... "That's the name of the game; it's all about competition. Those guys push you, they develop you, and it's just part of the nature of the business."

Johnson knows because he was once in the same position. Drafted fourth overall in 2013, Johnson was initially seen as an eventual successor to left tackle Jason Peters, but instead found his place on the right side of the line, giving Philadelphia bookend tackles for the majority of the rest of the decade.

With Peters now gone and Andre Dillard set to take over at left tackle following a biceps tear that ended his 2020 season before it began, and backup Jordan Mailata coming into 2021 with momentum following a campaign in which he appeared in 15 games (10 starts), competition already exists up front. Second-year tackle Jack Driscoll also returns after appearing in 11 games (four starts), making for an interesting offensive line group before a potential draft pick even arrives.

Cam Robinson officially signs franchise tag

News came March 18 that Jaguars left tackle Cam Robinson would sign his franchise tag, but it didn’t become official until Friday.
Robinson finally has signed the tender, according to the NFL’s transactions report Friday. It gives the Jaguars until July 15 to sign Robinson to a long-term deal or he will play this season under the one-year tag worth almost $14 million.

Lonnie Johnson to remain at safety

“Lonnie has position flexibility,” Smith said during his introductory press conference, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “You’re going to hear that word an awful lot. I think it’s safe to say, we see Lonnie as a safety right now. He feels good about that. He’s got excellent size. He’s got a corner skillset, too. Really feel good about him fitting into our defense.”
Johnson played 703 snaps on defense in 16 games last season, which was 64 percent of the team’s total defensive snaps, despite starting only five games. He made 76 tackles.

    Broncos bring back Nate Hairston

Cornerback Nate Hairston appeared on Thursday’s transaction wire because the Broncos released him and he was back on it Friday.
Mike Klis of KUSA reported that Hairston’s release was a “procedural move” rather than one made because they wanted to be rid of the cornerback. That was proven correct because Hairston has re-signed with the team.

Phillip Adams’ brain will be studied for CTE

Earlier this week, former NFL defensive back Phillip Adams shot and killed five people before killing himself. Adams’ father said that “football messed him up.” Scientists will take a closer look at that specific question.
Via the Associated Press, the brain of Phillip Adams will be tested for Chronic Traumatic Encephelopathy, a degenerative condition that potentially can cause cognitive disorders and other problems.

NFLPA tells NFL it will urge players not to show up for any in-person offseason work

The NFL Players Association continues to push back against the NFL’s desire for in-person workouts this spring. The union wants an all-virtual offseason, arguing it is the smartest and safest approach.
NFLPA President JC Tretter told players on a call Friday the union will urge players not to show up if teams conduct in-person organized team activities, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports.

“We’ve been telling them: It’s voluntary, and we’re not gonna go,” Tretter said, via Pelissero.
Of the NFL’s 2,500 players, some 300 have workout bonuses they would lose by skipping OTAs, according to Pelissero.
Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the lone mandatory work before training camp is a June minicamp. The union wants even that to be virtual again this year because of the ongoing pandemic.
Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians has pointed out that a virtual offseason program benefits veteran players.
“If we lose spring, [young players] are not getting developed. The veterans love that s–t, because that means they don’t get to take their jobs,” Arians said in February.
