Commissioner Tells Teams The Draft Will Proceed as Scheduled

    https-::profootballtalk.nbcsports.com:2020:03:26:commissioner-tells-teams-the-draft-will-proceed-as-scheduled:

On Thursday morning, the NFL told PFT that the draft will proceed as scheduled. On Thursday night, Commissioner Roger Goodell sent an even more clear message to the 32 franchises that, four weeks from tonight, the draft will commence.

“As you know, we have been reviewing and addressing all aspects of our off-season operations, including the Draft, in light of current public health conditions,” Goodell informed all clubs in a memo dated March 26, a copy of which PFT has obtained. “Earlier today, the [NFL Management Council Executive Committee] discussed the issues relating to the Draft. The Committee was unanimous and unequivocal that the Draft should go forward as scheduled on April 23-25, 2020.”

    Why wouldn't it?

The draft won't be open to the public. Draft prospects won't be there.

Nobody is even going to be ther except for guys probably like Mel Kiper or some ****. LOL. it'll be pretty interesting to see what this draft looks like with no one there.

Wouldn't make sense NOT to have the draft take place as scheduled with all these precautions taken, is my point.

We'll see about OTAs, trading camp, and the rest of it later. Might be that the rookies will be delayed at getting acclimated at best.

It actually may be a better show this way.

Who needs all of the other fluff?

I think the concern for teams is that they haven't had a chance to do their normal due diligence on prospects. If OTAs are going to be canceled or delayed anyway, what's the rush in drafting players right now?

    Getting rookies the playbook
Vets getting cut after the draft and trying to hook on somewhere
    Signing undrafted players
Solidifying the roster - Camp starts with 90 players (when/if it starts)

I see zero sense in delaying it.

That's fine with me. I'm just speculating why a number of teams seem to want to push it back.

I agree it probably would be an improvement.

Day 1 for Bills Fans this year isn't really very important.

If there was ever a year to dial it back this would be the year.

Now Day 2 that's different as far as the interest level goes.

    Fluff be gone.

They should do it remotely. It’s going to be at least a half dozen people from each team plus media and NFL representatives and TV crews. That’s easily 250 people, from different parts of the country. Too much too soon (yes, I meant that Specials reference).

I assumed that's how it was going to be done. There's no reason a contingent from each team needs to gather in one location.

I like the idea of separating them.

Should make the process simpler imo.

Trades should be just as smooth.

I can't see an issue for anybody.

This is correct, GMs have said as much.

The entire draft should be done from home with the help of one of the popular virtual teleconferencing companies.

The NFL draft should be moved to Zoom or Skype or something similar. If thereís any event that could go on as planned, sort of, it has to be the NFL draft. I donít need to see anyone shake Roger Goodellís hand, though.

The league should be separate from the teams who should be separate from each other who should be separate from the players. And it certainly would be feasible from a broadcast standpoint.

And thereís no reason much of that canít be approximated remotely.

And as we all know all of this stuff is subject to change at any given moment.

Love it, the NFL helps you forget about all the chaos going on around you.
