Re: NFL is Planning For a Full Season With Full Stadiums

At a time when the entire American sports industry is shut down (with very limited exceptions) due to the coronavirus pandemic, the NFL intends to not lose 2020 regular-season games to the crisis.

During a conference call with reporters held on Tuesday, NFL general counsel Jeff Pash said the league is planning for a full season.

Hope for the best but expect the worst.

The only thing they can do at this point is plan a full season and hope that it blows over by then, but have a contingency plan with fewer games and/or no fans if necessary.

Plans change but no sense in canceling something 5 moths away.

Re: NFL is Planning For a Full Season With Full Stadiums

It would be fully our luck to have assembled our best roster in decades only to see the season cancelled

That said, the NFL makes about 15 percent of its revenue from gate receipts and gameday concessions. The remainder is largely TV money (50%+), corporate sponsorships, and merchandise. It's reasonable to expect that by August rapid testing will be sufficiently available to at minimum offer a reasonably safe environment for players to practice and play games without fans.

Just speculating, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if the NFL can maintain somewhere between 60% and 85% of its income by playing games in empty stadiums, that's a more likely worst case scenario than cancellation of some or all of the season. That of course supposes that it's in the NFL's discretion--i.e. there's no government lockdown on non-essential businesses still in place. But frankly if we're still in a lockdown in August football is going to be really low on our list of concerns
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?

    agree...

I can see empty stadiums to start and have a very high tech type of TV experience involved with it. To get people to tune in.

Agree 60-85% is still something they can work with for now. The CBA might have to be adjusted. Right now we need results in the Coronavirus arena or none of this stuff matters. Unpredictable times all over the world.

Unless they find a vaccine there isn’t going to be a season.
Draft a franchise QB that X-Era would be proud to put in his user name for the next 13 years.

Well there's not going to be one by Sept. We may be far enough past the peak to play games. I really doubt we'll be at the point it's safe to pack 70,000 people together like sardines. If there's games they'll be in empty stadiums.

Seattle might have a tough time as well as KC they rely heavily on their fans noise level and so do the Saints to mention just a few .... empty stadiums would make home field advantage non existent.
