    Dion Dawkins contract will not come cheap for the Bills

    https-::www.buffalorumblings.com:202028:21271745:bbr-a-dion-dawkins-contract-extension-will-not-come-cheap-for-the-bills-poll

    The Buffalo Bills still have some unfinished business this offseason as it relates to potential contract extensions. In this week’s edition of Breaking Buffalo Rumblings the focus is on Dion Dawkins, the starting left tackle for the Bills.

    Dawkins is a captain and a reliable starter for the Bills, having manned the position the last three years. Contract extensions do not come cheap, and you can read more on what some projections would look like here.

    I don't look at him as a top 5 left tackle. Not even close. If other teams do they can pay him.

    For me he is not even a top 10. He is not the worst in the league, as a fan I would put him into the 15-17 place, out of the 32 teams in the league.

    Let him walk and take the compensatory 3rd

    Let him walk? Our line finally reaches a point where it's not bad (it's still the weakest unit on the roster), and people are willing to through that away?

    Nonsense. We spent a fortune on the DLine, we can afford to keep Dawkins and the rest of the OL. We should be upgrading not downgrading.

    I don't think that we should get rid of him, I don't think that we should pay him top 10 money LT nor RT, I would not miss him if he leaves, but I would love to have a better result out of his play if he is what a lot of people think and say he is.

    I would let him and Milano walk. Use the money on Edmunds and White

    Draft a LT in the draft and get a solid LB somewhere

    Use the money on Allen the following season

    Re up Diggs

    Now we only have Diggs, Edmunds, Allen, and White with top end deals

    Then we rebuild the rest of the roster like we have been

    Dawkins=Glenn

    We got a first for Glenn. If we franchise and trade him we can maybe get a second

    I don't want to let him walk but there's no way I'd make him the 3rd highest paid LT in the league as the writer suggests.

    We did not get a 1st for Glenn. What we got was an exchange of our 1st round pick (21) for Cincy's 1st round pick (12) and we got their 5th in exchange for our 6th. That's not close to a net 1st rounder, closer to a 3rd

    That's just the first year of the contract. In the second year, he'll be about the 10th highest paid, then down to around 15th in the 3rd year and then outside of the top 20 by the end of the contract. So his average rank over the life of the contract will put him somewhere around the middle, exactly what he should be paid. That's how free agency works. It's a moving target.

    If contracts were fully guaranteed you would see a different dynamic, but because teams can cut a player at anytime they want the money upfront and early, being too expensive at the end is good way to get cut.

    I wouldn't worry about any of this right now. The economic forecast for the NFL is likely going to change dramatically which will have a direct impact on the salary cap moving forward.

    That is where I am as well, but given the Bills have never invested in an elite LT since drafting Mike Williams #4 overall, I expect they will pay this very average LT elite money.

    I think it is a mistake that will be readily apparent almost immediately.
