Big Ten Could Be Next To Cancel Season

The Mid-American Conference may not be the biggest domino to fall today. Not even close to it.
Pete Thamel of Yahoo.com reports that Big Ten school presidents are meeting on Saturday, and that all options are on the table. Including cancellation of the fall season.

Thamel reports that it isn’t known whether enough support exists to make that decision today. Still, it feels like that decision inevitably will be made.
The Big Ten recently decided to launch a 10-game, conference-only schedule on September 3. That’s fewer than four weeks from now.

    Boom !

Oh well, at least Ohio St. had Justin Fields for a year... suck but I get it completely. They are looking at the Spring and who will join them.

3 conferences bailed, plus Old Dominion and UConn so far.

    College is slowly bailing...

It's basically over for college football.

Big 12 ( who cares ) says they are going to play.

It's the ACC and SEC everyone is waiting for.

I'm not too sure people really realize it, but football isn't so much of a big deal any more. 150,000 plus people are dead, that number isn't going down. I really want football. But it doesn't seem so important to me anymore when I'm putting on a mask, watching who's near me without one, washing my hands, and trying to listen for who is coughing near me.

Football would be great. It's not worth anyone dying. They need to shut it down, and probably the pro game too, though that isn't what I want to say.
I lost a bet with Pink and all I got was this dumb avatar that I've had awhile anyway.

Re: Big Ten Could Be Next To Cancel Season

I was posting to a live Q&A a few minutes ago with Bill Landis, who covers Ohio St. and the Big10 for the Athletic.

I asked him without bias whether the SEC ACC and Big12 are still planning/posturing for fall football for some future recruiting advantage. ( We care more about football than they do ).

My thinking is based on the high Covid numbers in the South and watching in disbelief as the National news shows kids in Georgia and other Southern schools crushing the school hallways ass to nut with not one face mask in sight. Insanity.

Landis doesn't doubt they will go forward until the expected issues force them to abandon fall football.

    Regional/political pressure ?

Absolutely. And I can't wrap my head around people abandoning common sense when it so clearly affects other peoples lives.....and deaths.

Re: Big Ten Could Be Next To Cancel Season

UNC and Notre Dame hit 150 positives in a week of classes. Saban in Alabama says his players are great in their bubble. I think he forgot about the classes part, big surprise. They need to shut it down. It's not happy, but better than spreading death to watch college football.

It's going to happen to the pros too. It all sort of needs to be decisively addressed at once, and maybe that's what gives some people the real measure of the scope of it so they can take it serious.

QB Fields and his petition. It's a tough pill to swallow but I think shutting it down was the right decision. College life means parties and social activity.

$ and politics still seems the reasoning over common sense in some regions, especially the South.

    It's simple really,

The lib states in the big conferences will not play. (Calif, Oregon, Northeast schools}.
Did you notice the three schools in the Little-10 that wanted to play Nebraska, Ohio St, Iowa....

You have to keep the political charade going through November.

Just like the NFL. Some states allow some fans and of course some states allow no fans. Not hard to see the political lines.

The BIG10 to meet again today with a possible vote to resume the season ? Checking all the updates.

6 schools that previously voted NO would have to switch their vote. 11-3 vote in August to suspend. Ohio St., Nebraska and Iowa were the original 3 YES votes.
