Honestly, Kevyn Adams pulled off a decent deal.

Staal is up there in years(35)but he gives the Sabres depth at the position until Cozens is ready to step in. AND he can still contribute, last season notwithstanding.

I'm certainly excited, and I'd like to think adams and company talked to staal, but there was word that staal said if he was ever traded from the wild, he would simply retire.

    How buffalo would that be?

The fact that he was part of that Carolina team that lucked into that Cup win leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

O'Reilly was here for leadership. He got fed up with the Sabres and whined his way out. Staal might not be the @$$hole that O'Reilly is, but the outcome will be no better.

At this point, could you blame him? Eichel's a point per game player and a legit superstar. I wouldn't call Skinner or Reinhardt "superstars" but I'd still call them stars. They're above average top 6 forwards. Olafsson is quickly joining them. Dahlin isn't quite a superstar yet but he's well on his way.

And yet they still can't win because of gross organizational incompetence. If you told any coach/GM in the league that that's their core, they'd be thrilled. But the Sabres can't figure out how to build a team around them.

At this point, I just find it hard to blame the players when the organization is dicking around with their careers.

And this pick up helps for at least this year
