Ok. Who do we replace them with for less than 37 million? Hyde is great. Brown is very good but you could make an argument that he’s expendable with Diggs and the emergence of Davis. Morse will be hard to replace, especially since he and Allen are used to playing together.

I get it. We need cap to catch the Chiefs. But taking two steps backwards to get the space doesn’t get us closer to them.

Release Singletary to save $590k? You can't even sign a vet to a minimum deal with that. Guys like Brown, Morse and Hyde don't need to be cut to save money. There are options to restructure their deals and still save millions. Beane will figure it out. We're in good hands.

I don't think Addison, Jefferson, and Butler's signings shored up the D-line exactly like they wanted. I do think there will be some turn-over on the d-line this off-season, but I don't think it will be exactly as you suggest here. And all those clamoring for Star Lotulelei to return, I ask you this - he was a no show this season and the Bills got to within one game of the Super Bowl. How do you think the team is going to feel towards him skipping out? They may decide to move on there was well. And that's ok as long as they upgrade.

I'm keeping Hyde and maybe even Butler over re-signing Milano.

Addison can go if it means we bring in a real pass rush option as a Free Agent and not just some Panthers re-tread.

Edit: Addison can go in general. His contract was a mistake at his age, but with all of our cap space it doesn't really hurt us. Also Butler and Jefferson can go as well.

In regards to Star, none of us fans know why he chose not to play. If he has family members with comprised immune systems or heart problems, he made a great decision which put his family first. I doubt any player would hold that against him.

yes, because nothing says superbowl champ like cutting veteran depth and starters from a team. get out of here. you don't build a superbowl champ by making moves as if you are going to compete for the superbowl in 4 years (if ever).

you keep john brown and micah hyde and mitch morse, cause you don't want to make any position weaker then it was this year. the rest are debatable Butler was trash all year and got blown up all game against the chiefs, we definitely need an upgrade there. same for quinton jefferson and mario addison, none of our DTs were very good this year. so i can buy replacing them all three of those for better players. Though if you blow up the middle of the defense you got to invest money right back into it. so it comes down to what's available in free agency and the draft.

You lost me at Singletary and completely on Hyde.

Hyde plays at a pro bowl level for 5 mil a year. He's a steal. I can agree that RB needs an upgrade but see no reason to cut anyone when they are serviceable guys on rookie deals.

Brown is the one i can see being let go. IT's hard to justify with Davis looking good and having depth already. If he can't be restructured I suspect he will be gone.

Re: 7 cuts to save $37 mil in CAP SPACE!

You just cut half of the D-line.

Who are you going to replace Morse with?

Saving 37 million is fine, but you have to replace these guys too.

I'd bet you $5 right now that they re-negotiate Diggs, give him a huge up front bonus, an extra year, and save whatever his cap hit is next year. They can do the same for Brown, Morse, etc.

There are other ways to create cap space than cutting guys. Yes, I agree, some should be cut, but you don't just cut guys to free up space without having replacements

Hyde and Singletary, no way. The rest can go although I'd approach Morse about an extension that lowers his annual salary and/or a pay cut.

    Dickerson - Alabama
    Cleveland - Georgia
    Humphrey - Oklahoma

Take your pick. Any of those three can be had in the draft in rds 2-4 to replace Morse at alot less money.
Morse didn't exactly tear it up this year and you have the concussion issue.

Interesting thread a bit bold but being bold is more fun.

Changes coming that much is certain.

As we're all sad the run has come to an end this season we have much to look forward to.

I agree that Addison and Jefferson can go. They were just bodies and that money can be better spent. Butler wasn't great either, but I like the idea of keeping him for the simple fact that he's in a contract year. He's still a young talented player that's going to quickly run out of opportunities to earn some big money, so I'd expect him to have the best season of his career in 2021. He can move on after next season, but I'd be willing to take a chance on him for one more year.

Re: 7 cuts to save $37 mil in CAP SPACE!

If you have any business management knowledge, you think of what's your corner stones, capabilities instead of thinking of cutting people first.

D-Line for example, who's your corner stone? Inside, Star and Ed are probably the starters. They are capable starters in NFL, not superstar level but probably solid starters. For backups, you are looking at Philips, Zimmer, and Butler, maybe Jefferson as well. There will be cuts there.

On the edge, what do we have? Hughes, Addison, Epenesa, and Johnson. Hughes and Addison will be 33 and 34 when 2021 season starts. They are transition players at this stage. Do we have any corner stone players? What are Epenesa and Johnson capable of into their 2nd and 3rd season?

I'd not be surprised the#1 pick will be made on a DE.

With Star restructuring his deal and then opting out, it basically guarntees he has a roster spot next season. It would cost more cap space to cut him then keep him. Even if they designate him as a post-June 1 cut, they'd still be taking the full cap hit, so it doesn't make sense for him to not be on the team.

It took forever for the D to gel with the loss of Starr and additions.
We blow up this D again, I dont think we get any closer to figuring out KC offense.

Re: 7 cuts to save $37 mil in CAP SPACE!

I'm not the biggest fan of Singletary. I think he has a limited skill set. He's good in the open field at making people miss. He can catch a pass here and there (though he drops some too) and he's a better blocker than you expect for a small guy. However, he lacks speed to make the big play and he absolutely can't make the pile budge. Still, he's worth the salary on his rookie deal. I think I buy Ingtar's assessment about the value of players listed. Upgrades are needed on the D-line. I'm not so eager to get rid of any others
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.
