Four years ago, the worst-kept secret in the NFL was that the Raiders will hire Jon Gruden to be the team’s head coach. In the upcoming interview/hiring cycle, the worst-kept secret in the NFL could become that the Raiders will hire Jim Harbaugh as the permanent replacement for Gruden.

For now, buzz is building in league circles that team owner Mark Davis wants, and will get, the former 49ers and current Michigan coach. The man who took a 6-10 team to the NFC Championship in his first year and who nearly won a Super Bowl in his second. The man who went 44-19-1 in four seasons as an NFL head coach.

This is as good as it gets for Harbaugh, a season ago he was taking a pay cut and one more year from being tossed on the trash heap. 2021 put his name back on the map of desirables and he needs to cash in while he still can. Davis has already proven he'll throw big money at a name.

I thought he was using all this NFL buzz to get a better contract at Michigan. He's in negotiation talks. He has said, in the recent past, that he was happy at Michigan and wanted to stay and had no interest in the NFL. Certainly in his former NFL HC position he didn't have to play his brother as often as he would with an AFC team.
