McDermott: Need to Improve Team Speed

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ng-team-speed/

“We’re going to continue to build this as well, and we’re going to continue to address areas of need, and I think not just this year, but evolving with how the game continues to evolve, that we have to continue to evolve with it and try and be out in front of it, all the time,” McDermott said, via the team’s website. “So that’s what we have to do and one of the areas that we have to continue to look at — matching team speed on both sides of the ball.”

The Chiefs have been the insurmountable obstacle for the Bills the last two seasons. If they can build up some more speed, next year’s approach may be to run past it rather than trying to vault over it.

Re: Sean McDermott: We Need to Improve Team Speed

It's like he saw my posts about the need of getting a player on offense like Tyreek Hill.

No one on our offense, outside of Allen himself, scares anyone.

Diggs is a good receiver but you can cover him one on one and take him out of games. KC did just that.

Did he say how if they didn't screw up we probably would have won or did he just talk about all the other stuff they want to improve at?

Quick maybe, top end speed no. 40 times are not a predictor of NFL success but they are a good measure of actual speed. Tyreek had a much faster combine 40 time than McKenzie and has certainly provided amble evidence that his playing speed matches the stop-watch numbers.

McKenzie can be extremely productive for us do to his incredible speed .... he doesn't need to outrun Hill he just needs to outrun their defense.

Now on defense a player (CB) with incredible speed might be more important in regards to taking Hill out or at least limiting him.

McKenzie plays defense too. The guy is a huge asset ... yet we put him on the bench for two weeks because he fumbled once.

Thing is McKenzie doesn't even play like he's that fast.

He has a 4.6 yards per carry over his career.

And a 9.3 yards per catch over his career.

    People around here overrate him.

Is it speed we need or big strong fat guys up front?

I accept his skills and wish to enhance his opportunities.

He's special and I do not overestimate what his contribution can be.

Re: McDermott: Need to Improve Team Speed

I'm guessing McDermott was talking about his secondary more than anything else. Nobody among Buffalo's receivers has the speed of Tyreek Hill, but Buffalo didn't seem to miss it against KC or many other teams either. However, it is a CB where Buffalo's lack of speed is clearly hurting them. Wallace and Jackson are decent zone CBs and Tre White is top notch. However, after Tre White, Buffalo's cornerback speed is well below average, and sometimes it hurts them. It certainly did when trying to defend against Tyreek Hill.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I would love it if Jordan Davis of Georgia dropped to the Bills in the draft, but it's not real likely. Davis is huge, but he's also athletic.

If that's what he's talking about, he's never going to find it.

There is not one corner in this league as fast as Tyreek.

Anybody can be taken away or severely limited .... speed and physicality .... are the weapons.

Will you succeed every time .... nope.

I hope they spend the off-season continuing to bolster the OL, it's getting better, but there's still a lot of room to improve.

The only thing that limits Hill is KC's gameplan that week.

Go look up his game by game stats.

He's one of the very few guys in this league you simply cannot defend. And he's a major reason why KC is as good as they are.

When he gets the ball, he puts up big games.
