What does Poyer currently make and what is he asking for? I haven't seen that reported.
Lou Saban: You can get it done, you can get it done. And what’s more, you’ve gotta get it done.

They should have put the tallest D-line in there and had them all jump in the air with their hands up after 2 seconds.

    Bull****

Not a single receiver with someone 10 yards from him. 5 people in coveage not even within 15 yards, 2 not even in the picture.

Post 43 ***** I believe after the draft.

Gotta feeling he's on thin ice and it's getting warmer.

It’s the basic prevent defense that most teams run in that scenario. I don’t like it either but it’s what most run.

I read somewhere that with Oliver's option exercised, the Bills are about $9 million under the projected 2023 cap right now with Poyer, Edmunds, Know, Singletary all scheduled to be FAs. All starters. Something has to give.

I don't even think it's outschemed, we got outplayed in that situation.

The defense we called there is exactly what KC did on defense on our final drive, minus the horrible coverage KC had on the TD to Davis.

The issue wasn't the Hill play as every time gladly gives that up in the situation. The issue was letting Kelce freely go through the middle and the missed tackle when he initially caught the ball. If he's tackled basically right away, the Chiefs at best, have the ball on the 38. Instead the tackle is missed and Kelce gets to the 30.

    Assuming he's still ascending.

Edmunds seemed plateaued. In fact other than his 1st year, he looked to be the same player.

Singletary is sneaky. Promising rookie season, disappointing sophomore year , then surging at the end of last season. Not sure it is his improvement, or the Bills committed to him more or o-line change. BUT he's not a game changer for sure.

Poyer has one big disadvantage vs the others: he's into the declining years of his career whereas the other 3 are into their prime years.

Why do I get the feeling Poyer and Edmunds would be traded in a minute this draft weekend, if offered something ?

Not many players of that caliber get traded during the draft, but would they? Yeah. Send them both to Detroit, Minnesota or Chicago for a 2nd and a 4th.

Don't agree. Most teams would run a version of it. Or run it like that against a team with an inferior QB, in a regular season game. It's not like that soft prevent hasn't harmed us before in the playoffs.

KC had 3 timeouts, we were protecting the boundaries and leaving the middle of the field open against Hill and Kelce, and rushing 4. They had to cost KC time before they burned those timeouts, Mahomes wasn't going to waste it running, there was no need for sideline passes. Even mugging the receivers at the line would have been productive.

An extra DB in the seam while rushing 3, or crowd Kelce, double someone to slow them, good defensive minds would not have dropped that deep and soft to give Kelce and Hill space to work.

And this was not a regular season game, it was the door to a conference final and potential Super Bowl where you don't just default into a soft prevent against KC with Kelce/Hill and 3 timeouts with Mahomes under center.

That was a coaching choke against the obvious. The Bills had nothing with all their defensive coaching exp, but a basic soft prevent ?

Nah, I respect your opinion, but to me it was more than your average "it happens".

No problem with that, it is what it is. Doesn't mean we gloss it over like it was normal though, because it stands out with precedents and might well affect future.

You can't ever ignore past experience with "just happens" and I know you don't, unless you give up, and I don't think you do. You aim for a better standard, or try to, and don't settle for "ok, whatever". It's just a stupid sports game, but you can get to a point in life where everything has significance. You get past it, but you can't ignore the nuance of how it happened.

It wasn't normal, not at all. I'm fine with this year, if it isn't last year again, again.

Anyway, maybe we learned something. But it's just not a normal way to lose.

It was a normal call and we got beat. It’s what happens. I have no doubt they would make a similar playcall in the same position this year.

If it works nobody will say anything, if it doesn’t then everybody will crow. It’s the nature of fandom.

Doesn’t change the goal each year which is winning a championship at all costs. 31 teams fail every year, it happens.

The play call was to make Mahomes scramble killing time. Either blitz which they hadn't done all night or just jump in his passing lane to block passes. That kills 5+ seconds immediately. They could have blitzed one guy that would have thrown them off.

11 guys in coverage sticky coverage would be my approach.

Mahomes wouldn't know whether to **** or go blind.

I use all my db's and safeties I have active.

Then I use Diggs, Davis and Knox and anybody else with similar background.

Never allowing any of them off the line without a big dump to start off with.

Oh and the kickoff should have been towered to between the 5 and 10 but that's too smart I guess.

Again, disagree. Has nothing to do with fandom, I'd feel the same if any other team did it. It's not going to work, we've proven several times. The goal is the same, you have to work for it. Some teams do, and get farther. You don't fall back into a video game soft prevent if you want to win a real game.

It was entirely generic and inadequate, and I find it real hard to believe you don't see it so.

It wasn't normal for a team fighting for another level to get generic default. It just wasn't.
