Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Poyer isn't good anymore, or he should be cut, etc. But, is he worth another contract? Safeties tend to fall off right around Poyer's age. He's not stupid, he knows he has a very small window to cash in a final big pay day. If I'm Beane, I tell Poyer he has two choices: play out your current contract, and go from there, or retire. Unless Poyer is willing to sign a team friendly deal (I doubt it), he can play through next year and test the market.
