Jordan Poyer looking for a contract extension in Buffalo

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...on-in-buffalo/

The Bills gave wide receiver Stefon Diggs a contract extension this week and one of Diggs’ teammates would like the team to make the same kind of commitment to him.

Safety Jordan Poyer is heading into the final year of his current contract and he recently hired Drew Rosenhaus as his agent in a move that signaled a desire to open up contract talks with the reigning AFC East champs. Rosenhaus confirmed that is the case this week.

“We have approached the Bills about a contract extension for Jordan, and he would very much like to finish his career in Buffalo,” Rosenhaus said, via Tim Graham of TheAthletic.com.

I’m looking for a new contract… actually a first one… easy terms. 3 million signing bonus then a dollar a year for 20 years.

Re: Jordan Poyer looking for a contract extension in Buffalo

I'd like to see Poyer extended...as well as Dawson Knox...but there can only be so many guys with paydays. Edmunds can go IMO obviously, but I might like to extend Oliver.

They've already paid Allen, Dawkins, Diggs, Morse, White, Von Miller, Hyde, Milano, and TJohnson with big money. There are 25 (if spotrac is accurate) UFA's next year, hell that's literally almost half of the roster.

Some of these guys are just going to have to get their bank elsewhere (like Wallace, H.Phillips) and it's going to suck. So far the losses have been 'acceptable' but eventually we're going to lose good starters, not just rotational guys and depth. Hell, one could argue it's already happened with the two we just lost.

I personally feel Poyer has earned it and they can work an affordable extension to keep him happy. He's a critical piece of the defense they are committed to playing. I have no doubt they will. This one bothers me not at all.

Re: Jordan Poyer looking for a contract extension in Buffalo

It’s not an easy decision, but you have to extend Oliver before Poyer.

In Oliver you’re buying low and hoping for a massive return, in Poyer you’re paying top of the market prices and praying for returns that don’t diminish too quickly.

If we can afford them both then great, but Oliver should be the priority imo.

    Musts!!!!!

    1) Poyer ( at a really good team number and terms)
    2) Knox
    3) Oliver

When does Gabriel Davis's contract come up?

    Absolutely gotta have him.

There's 12 guys ahead of him and only two are older than 30. One is Harrison Smith that got a crazy 4 year deal at 33, the other is Tyrann Mathieu who is a year younger and didn't get an offer from KC. Jordan is going to find it's hard getting paid as 30+ DB. Unless he's willing to take a short deal, if he wants 3 or 4 seasons, it's going to be tough.

Well that's what I'm expecting, with a void year. Some amount of guarantee and signing bonus. It's not going to be a monster deal, it will be a tangible sweetener to reward his production that they'll be able to spread out with a "renegotiation" again if he maintains.

I wouldn't throw the bank at him, but I don't think that's what he's looking for. He's genuinely a critical part of their defensive philosophy atm if they intend an SB and not replaceable atm if they are serious about it, and they seem to be pretty serious about it. I think it's mutually doable without terrible pain and unrealistic for either side.

Despite his reputation as a bit of a viper, when you read about Drew Rosenhaus over the years, i get the sense that he's not a difficult agent to work with. I know prior Bills FOs (granted, they were bad FOs) didn't have a problem with him.

    Agreed.

Itís been a long time since weíve seen any other safeties get a real chance since these two have been so reliable.

How good is Jaquon Johnson? I have a feeling he has a chance to be an impact player.

Knox is a weapon on this team and hasnít even hit his prime yet.

Once he becomes an impact blocker and refined route runner heíll be as good as most TE in the league minus the ones from KC and SF, maybe LV.

I haven’t hit my prime either.

Once Yardrat becomes an impact blocker and a refined route runner, he will be a weapon at TE.

Knox had a good year. 1 good year. Poyer is a foundation player.
