This is not an easy schedule. The SB champs on the road. The Titans (and Colts) always give us trouble. Miami is much improved. Then you have Lamar, and then goddamn in KC again which I'm really sick of, then Rogers. We may have to be 8-1 at seasons end to make up for this start.

We finally got a chance to see Matt Araiza holding. However, it was just in limited individual drills with the other specialists and not in any sort of actual extra point or field goal environment as a team.

My opinion, I’ll take hang time over distance and the ability to put puts inside the 5 yard line.

What's more important is making sure Bass has a good holder. Yes, the rook has the better leg and improved his hang time.

Araiza held for a bunch of Bass FGs yesterday and Bass nailed them all. On day last week he held for 8 Bass kicks and Bass made them all. Knowing he can hold and has better distance and virtually the same hang time (and he can still improve on this), it's Araiza's job to lose.

Are you sure? It’s not even 5 more yard a punt worth a roster spot? Maybe he’s the shining new coin we really don’t need, but he’s shinny and like most people now a days have to have. Right wrong or indifferent, just have to have.

From all reports, the only question for Arazia is if he could handle holding....and has been answered 100% in the affirmative.

It would be a HUGE surprise if he does not beat our Haack.

Keeping Araiza over Haack also helps with the cap. Since he can hold and his hang time is negligibly less than Haack (and it's something he can work on) and his average is better, he'll make the team.

I think hang time has to some extent been a work in progress for Araiza, and I think the overall trend has been improvement for him. I think it will be far more telling to compare their hang time over 3 or 4 practices at the end of August.
