Thurman Thomas spearheads huge donation haul for victims of Buffalo shooting

    https://www.buffalorumblings.com/202...te-supremacist

Buffalo Bills legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas is using his standing in the Western New York community to raise money to support those impacted by the racist mass shooting in the city of Buffalo over the weekend. A white supremacist opened fire in a supermarket, killing ten and injuring three more.

Thomas kicked off the donations to his Thurman Thomas Family Foundation with a $10,000 gift. Current Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson also donated $10,000, Kelly For Kids (HOFer Jim Kelly’s charity) also donated $10,000 and private companies joined in, too, with the Basil Family donating $35,000 and Gilbane and Turner Construction sending $10,000.

The big donations mentioned above and the smaller donations from everyday folks have topped more than $160,000 per Thomas’s wife, Patricia. At 42 North Brewing on Wednesday, a portion of all beer sales will go to the Foundation. They aren’t stopping there.

It's a start. Use some money to run commercials citing unity among all races.
    We don't even have pictures
    Just memories to hold
    That grow sweeter each season
    As we slowly grow old...

Bills, NFL foundations donating $400,000 to local response efforts following shooting

The Buffalo Bills Foundation and NFL Foundation are combining to donate $400,000 to local response efforts following last Saturday's shooting at a Buffalo supermarket.

The Bills announced that a combined $200,000 will go to the Buffalo Together Community Response Fund, which will address topics including issues that have marginalized communities of color.

"On behalf of the Buffalo Together Community Response Fund, we are most grateful for the generous contributions from the Buffalo Bills Foundation and the National Football League Foundation that will allow us to create real change and emerge from the darkness of this heinous act," Clotilde Perez-Bode Dedecker, president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, said in a statement. "This Fund is a partnership to build upon the collective desire to take action and to work together as a community to address immediate needs, long-term rebuilding and systemic issues that continue to marginalize communities of color."

Classy, meaningful response from a classy organization imho. I'm proud of them.

'Give hope and share grief' | Bills make an impact in visit to Buffalo's East Side

Today was time to spread love.

Since this weekend's horrific events, many in the community and in Western New York came together to figure out how to help the victims' family members and help provide food and love to an area that needs it now more than ever.

Like so many others in the community, the Buffalo Bills wanted to lend a helping hand to a hurting community.

"We talked about it as a team," quarterback Josh Allen said. "Coach McDermott asked who would be willing to do this and every person in our building raised their hand."

Re: Thurman Thomas spearheads huge donation haul for victims of Buffalo shooting

"It was really tough especially because I used to live downtown and shop at that Tops, so it really hit home," Bills defensive lineman Shaq Lawson said. "It was a sad, sad moment. Going over there, you feel like you were there and, in the moment, that's how your body felt when you went over to the scene."

"It's emotional and it's tough," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said. "To walk down there and see where this happened brings it to home. It's real and it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. What just happened here a few days ago, it's surreal and it's sickening.

"All we can do is what my shirt says, 'choose love'. We have to love one another, and we have to get past this nonsense that continues to happen in the country."
