He’s Canadian… Sabres! Try him in net. No sense wasting genetics on camp fodder with the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills have made another addition to their defensive line.

Former North Carolina State defensive end Daniel Joseph signed with the team as a rookie undrafted free agent after participating in last week's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. Joseph posted a photo of himself on Instagram signing his contract.

He is a native of Brampton, Ont., who started his college career at Penn State, redshirting in 2016. Joseph played in 32 games for the Nittany Lions over the next three seasons, finishing with 29 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He entered the transfer portal in January 2020 and landed at North Carolina State.

He led the Wolfpack with 6.5 sacks in 2020, making eight starts. He also finished with 37 tackles, including 10 for loss. With the NCAA granting athletes an extra year of eligibility because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Joseph returned for a sixth college season in 2021, finishing with 46 tackles, including nine for loss, and five sacks.

Joseph went undrafted, perhaps in part because he did not test all that well at NC State's pro day, running a reported 5.08-second 40-yard dash and registering a 29-inch vertical leap.

Joseph, who is 6-foot-2 and 261 pounds, was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 Canadian Football League draft by the B.C. Lions, but opted to return to NC State for another college season.

I'm not comfortable committing more than a "Yes !!!" without having a coffee together and discussing his feelings on the sport. I reached out.

Well, I reached out to the wrong person, Daniel Brampton from Joseph, Oregon. He couldn't fly out for coffee, but we did a facetime. Dan's a great guy, I'm very comfortable with his football philosophy, and he demonstrated a keen knowledge of progressive rock and old British comedies from back in the day. We'll have a beer next time I'm in Oregon, and he says his wife makes an excellent beef stew if I'd join them for dinner. Millie Brampton popped on to say "hi" and shares her husband's wry humor and positive outlook. I'd probably say Brampton, at 61, is a longshot to make the team, but I'll be rooting for him. He's good people.

His lack of athleticism keeps his ceiling relatively low. He's a prohibitive long shot to make the team.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

4th overall player taken in the Canadian draft .... sounds like somebody thought he could play ball.

Did not know that, thanks. Hopefully he can actually play in the NFL.

Kyle Williams was drafted in the 5th rounds. At the time, expectations for him were about the same. Let's hope this guy is the Canadian version of Williams.

I can't really see Brampton making it in the CFL either. He was an RB in high school, but that was 45 years ago. The CFL is a wide open game, and Brampton spent 35 years in a machine shop. Don't know he has the wind for it, as he smokes Marlboros. Great guy but he's not up to adding anything to the sport at this point.
