    Erie County approves stadium funding

The final hurdle toward the financial side of the brand new Buffalo Bills’ stadium has been cleared. On Thursday, Erie County lawmakers voted to approve the memorandum of understanding for their portion of the agreement.

In March, the NFL owners voted to approve the financing for owners Kim & Terry Pegula to move forward with their part of the agreement. That’s a $200 million loan that will be repaid through the ticket sales for away teams at the stadium over the next couple decades.

Later that month, governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York State had reached an agreement to fund $600 million of the project. In April, lawmakers in Albany approved the governor’s budget which included the necessary funding.

The final piece of public money was $250 million from Erie County. That was approved Thursday.

Over and done, moving right along, the Bills leaving is off the table as a topic for a good long while. And so.

The Pegulas bought the Bills for $1.4B. Of that, $1.2B was to be split evenly between Detroit and Buffalo. It has since grown to $1.9B. So the Pegulas have more than contributed a ton of money to Buffalo, although indirectly through the largesse of Ralph Wilson's estate.

They really invested a lot into downtown as well. I get that the Sabres have had issues, but I can't be more than happy the Pegulas stepped up into the Buffalo scene.

Yeah, I was going to go back and add that and got lazy. They've done a lot for Buffalo and IMHO still get ****ted on. The Bills are doing great and that's what matters most, but the Bandits have been doing well and the Amerks just had their best season in 16 years. The Sabres will get there soon.
