Josh Allen: Its awesome to have a guy like Tavon Austin

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-tavon-austin/

The Bills signed Tavon Austin earlier this month, adding a veteran receiver with significant experience. It didnt take Austin long to garner the respect of his teammates in the locker room, according to quarterback Josh Allen.

Re: Josh Allen: Its awesome to have a guy like Tavon Austin

“He’s only been here a couple of weeks, but even in walk-through, how attentive he is — he’s right behind me basically listening to the play call, jogging out, and standing behind someone in front of him going through the play,” Allen said. “You guys saw him in warm-ups, he’s behind the guys catching punts — he’s right there behind them doing all the drills and making it game-like reps. He’s trying to get those reps without actually getting them. So, again, his attention to detail has been awesome.
“His whole approach to guys, how he talks to his teammates, the other receivers is awesome. He’s bringing those guys along. So it’s awesome to have a guy like that, who’s been around the league for a long time, that people respect so much.”

Re: Josh Allen: Its awesome to have a guy like Tavon Austin

I had a teammate like Tavon Austin once in maintenance. It was terrible. He followed me around taking notes even when I was throwing out garbage. "Whoo....YEAH....get it OUT of here."......."Let's do some lumber carrying drills !"........"I'm going across the street to watch that guy change a tire while you change these bulbs, might help us !"....."PHILLIPS screws......NEED that Phillips SCREWDRIVER......oh yeah......turn that baby, don't wanna use that flathead like I have, you're on it"........"I went over how you cut that acre of grass with the pushmower yesterday while I watched.....I diagrammed it and have some thoughts on how you could do it better."

Vigorous clapping and enthusiasm. Was aggravating. I was replacing a 3rd floor window once, and he was shouting at me through the screen two apartments down....."I'm open, I'm OPEN". The worst though was when he suddenly sprinted across the parking lot and yelled "THROW IT"....well, it was pure reflex, I was holding a hammer....and he was on IR for a couple years until he rehabbed, then signed with Family Dollar to do stock.

Hope it works out better for Allen.

Don't be surprised if he does make the team. The only locks are Diggs, Davis, Shakir and Crowder. I don't think even McK is 100% safe, but I think they keep him in case of injury to Crowder, who has missed 4 and 5 games the past 2 seasons. So that still leaves another spot or 2.

Barring injury it's either Austin or Stevenson. Allen speaking highly of Austin does not hurt his chances.

Guys like Stevenson and Kumerow can easily be stashed on the PS. Kumerow was recently just cut and re-signed, and no one put in a waiver claim.

I’d be very surprised if McKenzie does not make the team. I’d be slightly surprised if Austin does.

Kumerow will make the team because of his value on special teams. Austin offers little besides a vet presence.

We'll see. It will be an interesting camp battle for sure.

Funny. Now watch him be a training camp cut.

Whatever. I root for the laundry and don't get strangely attached to specific players. ( " My guy ! " )

I don't think Austin is anyone's guy. He's just another body in the laundry. Hopefully he can be a good addition.

But I'll say that Josh is "my guy." Just a great player and person. And this is from someone who wanted the Bills to have nothing to do with him prior to the draft, and was pissed they drafted him. The kid is the kind of QB you'd create in a lab (a "creature" as Von Miller said), except he'd have the (not Abby)normal brain.

I think McKenzie showed last year he can be better than Beasley. And Crowder as well. Not to mention our new TE. And our rookie RB Cook. The O line and CB and LBs worry me the most.

Hard to say. He had just 26 targets on the season, with almost half coming in the 2nd NE game, where he had 11 receptions for 125 yards and played 85% of the snaps. And then he went back to being used on about 1/3 or fewer of the offensive snaps the remainder of the season.

The Bills did not have a consistent return man last season. If Austin can be that guy, he's making the team.

There appears to be an opening for him.
