Since the rest of the sub was nuked...The kids opened the prospect challenge with a 4-3 win over Montreal last night. Kozak had 2 goals. Savoie was creating some chances. Savoie was also on the PK

Re: Sabres prospect talk 3.0
So many reports of the Sabres rife with young talent. They OWN the longest streak (current and running) of all NHL teams for longest time missing the play-offs. I don't want to hear about a bunch of guys that might mature in 2 or 3 seasons. They also may be gone from the organization by then too. That has been the more likely scenario with the Sabres. They've had 11 years, or whatever it is, to right the ship and we're going to wait on 6th round picks from 2019?

SWEDEN 11, AUSTRIA 0
Filip Bystedt and Isak Rosen each had two goals and an assist as Sweden got off to a blazing start with an 11-0 drubbing of Austria in Halifax.
Carl Lindbom had 13 saves while also dishing out an assist for Sweden.
Thomas Pfarrmaier stopped 23 of 29 shots in 30:28 of action before being pulled for Benedikt Oschgan, who allowed five goals on 22 shots for Austria.

That said, it sure looks like Buffalo is putting together a team that's going to compete for years to come. Bot just to make the playoffs, but for long runs in said playoffs

Re: Sabres prospect talk 3.0
Goalie - Cromrie is going to play, once healthy. UPL was shaky at first and has improved. Anderson will retire soon but has played very well in spot starts. Levi first needs to sign, then go start a bunch of games in Rochester next year.
D - The injuries to that unit has been extensive. 3-4 of our top 6 have missed a lot of games.
Forwards - I'm guessing Victor O and Casey Mits will be trade bait. Girgs, Kyle O and a few others will be replaced with youth from Rochester next season. So many of our young players are emerging. Tage contract was a smart gamble.
Best I've felt about this organization in years.Anonymity is an abused privilege, abused most by people who mistake vitriol for wisdom and cynicism for wit

Rosen with a assist on Sweden s 1st goal against Canada.. the rumblings months ago Fantilli would push Bedard to be the number 1 pick in 2023 are a distant memory... Bedard is by far the most impressive player I've seen at the WJC since McDavid... black hawk fans must be salivating... too bad the lottery odds are lower now than in 2015 when the sabres had a 25% chance at mcdavid

Sabres re-sign defenseman Joe Cecconi to one-year deal
At this point, a veteran AHL defenseman who came to the Amerks via trade with the Dallas Stars. He is a 6' 3" RIGHT shot defenseman, which means he has some qualities the Sabres organization wants in a defender. He's from Youngstown, NY. Watch him in camp.
Cecconi played 41 games for Rochester this past season after being acquired from the Stars organization
Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Sabres have brought back some depth for the blue line in Rochester next season, re-signing defenseman Joe Cecconi on Friday to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000.
The 26-year-old was acquired by the Sabres this past December in a trade with the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Oskari Laaksonen.
This past season with the Rochester Americans, Cecconi played in 41 regular season games and scored three goals and eight points. The Youngstown native played quite well in the Calder Cup Playoffs for the Amerks, registering five points (2+3) in 14 games played.
Cecconi was a fifth-round selection of the Stars back in the 2015 NHL Draft. He has yet to make an appearance at the NHL level, but has played in 217 career AHL games, registering 41 points (7+34).We have signed Joseph Cecconi to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000.
