Yesterday's game against the Caps was fun to watch.
I remember watching the Sabres play the Caps shortly after Pegula bought the team. The Sabres were a team that still had some talent but, as much as I didn't want to admit it, they were looking like a team that needed to be retooled, if not rebuilt. Meanwhile, the Caps weren't quite there yet, but it was obvious that they were building toward something.
Yesterday felt like the opposite. The Caps felt like a team whose window had closed, whereas the Sabres felt like a team who isn't quite there yet but is on the verge of something.

Can somebody tell me why the Sabres signed goalie Houser just to waive him? Is it a contractual thing? Get to salary floor?
I don't know the NHL rules anywhere near as well as football, but I believe the cap floor for this season is ~$61 million and according to spotrac the Sabres current cap number is $66 million so there must be another reason. I did see comments that if he clears waivers he is expected to return to Rochester to back up Subban.

I think they want another goalie under control. He was on an AHL contract, and if you sign him to an NHL contract and have him stay in the AHL, he has to be exposed to waivers.
Not familiar with Stillman, but the fact that they're trading for a D man makes me think the Dahlin injury is worse than they are letting on.
