Can somebody tell me why the Sabres signed goalie Houser just to waive him? Is it a contractual thing? Get to salary floor?

I don't know the NHL rules anywhere near as well as football, but I believe the cap floor for this season is ~$61 million and according to spotrac the Sabres current cap number is $66 million so there must be another reason. I did see comments that if he clears waivers he is expected to return to Rochester to back up Subban.

I think they want another goalie under control. He was on an AHL contract, and if you sign him to an NHL contract and have him stay in the AHL, he has to be exposed to waivers.

Not familiar with Stillman, but the fact that they're trading for a D man makes me think the Dahlin injury is worse than they are letting on.

No, I don't think that's it. I think they're trying to add depth. The thought it they maybe ready to move on from Bryson
