Very encouraging the way Mittelstadt has played the last few weeks.

3rd on the team with 43 dimes, played 81 games, went from .48 ppg last year to .70 ppg this year with that slow start that made all of us want him gone.

Tuch, who was just one of the pieces Buffalo got in the Eichel trade, just scored his 36th goal. The most amount of goals that Jack Eichel has ever scored in a season… is 36.

It’s the ****ty manufactured point in the OT games that screwed us. It’s a horrible system that I’ve hated since it’s inception.

The Sabres close out the season 9-3 in their last 12 games. That's good enough to get into the play-offs. The problem is the that the dozen games before this they were only 2-10.

Such a streaky team. But the losing streaks all had a common issue: either Samuelsson or Tuch were out injured during each extended losing streak. They need those two guys.

The victory was Buffalo's 42nd (42-33-7), and 25th on the road which tied the franchise record.

The guys get to bond with each other while they are on the road away from their families.

I don't understand this point.

Buffalo had 12 OT wins, one of the best totals in the league. Florida and the Islanders 6 each, which means the new system allowed the Sabres to pick up six additional points on the other two teams that the old system wouldn't have given them. Under the old rules Buffalo would have finished farther out of the race. (If you take away the manufactured point and just let the outcomes stand as 1pt each ties, NYI=87 points, FLA=86 points, BUFF=79).

Unless you are saying the rule change should have eliminated ties completely, but even then all three teams would have ended up with 42 total wins and 84 points, and the first tiebreaker (regular wins) would have had the Sabres behind the other two still (36-36-30).

If anything the manufactured point helped Buffalo stay in the race longer.

The Sabres were literally 1 game short of the playoffs. A last week flip of that Florida game or that terrible NYI loss would have meant they would have needed only 1 point against Columbus (who just fired their coach) to make the playoffs. Ugh...

They tie the team record for road wins and fail badly at home. An utterly bizarre stat. Improvement was obvious but lots more work to do. See you next fall.

The Sabres will be among the 16 teams participating in the NHL draft lottery on May 8.

They have a 2% chance of winning the lottery, but "winning" means something a bit different after the March 2021 change in rules.

The Sabres are currently slotted at No. 13. They can select no higher than No. 3, no matter the lottery results.

A team can “move up” no more than 10 spots if it wins one of the draws, under the revised rules.
