Report: Nyheim Hines taking pay cut to remain with Bills

Report- Nyheim Hines taking pay cut to remain with Bills - ProFootballTalk

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, the Bills and Hines are reworking the running back’s contract for him to remain with the organization. Some of Hines’ base salary will convert to a signing bonus. And while Hines was previously slated to earn $4.79 million in 2023, he’ll have incentives for the chance to earn more than that.
While Hines is under contract for 2023 and 2024, he had no guaranteed money under his previous deal. So the Bills could have cut him and saved $4.79 million against the cap without any dead money.

Former President Donald Trump early Thursday touted the results of a new NPR/PBSNewsHour/Marist poll showing him ahead of President Joe Biden by 8 percentage points among independents.

      From ESPN:

Buffalo Bills running back Nyheim Hines' cap hit of $4.79 million in 2023 will be reduced to $3.5 million, per ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, saving the team about $1.3 million. He will receive a $1 million signing bonus, spread out over this year and next.

In the short time he was with the bills , Hines scored more TDs returning kickoffs alone than JD McKissic scored (0) in all of last season. Hines also scored a catch TD .

This was expected if he wanted to stay on the Bills.

Good for both the Bills and Hines.

They traded for him and he makes peanuts. He can actually return kicks and be used for some O plays with his speed.

We've paid others far more to do absolutely nothing. That's a positive investment. He plays on gameday.

Look for his backfield participation to increase.

No, that is not accurate. He has the chance of “still getting all his money” but that comes via incentives.

He was originally under contract to receive $4.79M in 2023. $4.45M in base salary and $340K in roster bonus.

After the renegotiation, his base salary is reduced to $2.66M (a reduction of $1.79M), with $1M a “restructure bonus”. He will still get the $340K roster bonus.

That is a total of $4M in cash....which is, in fact, a $790,000 cut.
