How much tread does Poyer have left?

That Bengals playoff game was a rough one for him, but I know he was gutting it out big-time.

Was this an example of resigning a player too late into his career? Or will we see one or two more PB-caliber seasons?

I hope he was more hurt than they let on in the Cinny playoff game or this is a really bad signing! I hoping this is the case, for now I choose to trust them. The scary part is, we have both our safeties, are main sack guy and top CB are all coming off major injuries. We need to hope and pray they all can come back 100% and if we have a lot less injuries like the 2021 season we should be in great shape. It's like signing free agents getting back Miller, Hyde, and White.

BTW, have we heard Poyer's contract numbers yet!

I'm guessing there were some medicals involved in the new deal. But I think the answer is we are about to find out!

He's been off 2 months and it's still another 5 1/2 months until the opener.

Plenty of time for him to get strong, like all the roster.

He's still very good. Worth the gamble.

In their demonstrated defense to date....I didn't see any replacing Poyer. If tbey're determined to keep running the same defense....they need him until he can't walk imho. He's critical for wbat they do atm.

Feel the same! I wasn't jubilant like most others seemed to be but, at the same time like Mace said, I had absolutely no idea who was going to step in for him if he did sign elsewhere.

He should have two good years left, maybe not at All-Pro level but still pretty good. They should start putting both safeties on snap counts to try and help preserve them for the playoffs, and start grooming a couple of replacements this year.

How much tread does Poyer have left?
That is the million dollar question. I guess we'll find out. The Bills felt he has 2 years worth.

He will miss games getting dinged up here and there, but when healthy he will play at a all pro level for the next year.

He was severely hurt vs The Bengals. It was obvious. He gave his heart and soul for this team

Joe B. had these interesting observations and comments about Poyer from his presser yesterday....

Poyer seems refreshed as the Bills get dynamic pair back

It didn’t take long to see a difference in Jordan Poyer from where things were almost a year ago. Poyer began nearly a year-long journey of looking for a lucrative extension from the Bills, changing agents to try and facilitate a deal and not shying away from wanting to be paid top-tier safety money. The deal never came from the Bills during the season, which paved the way for him wanting to test the free-agent market this March. On top of it, Poyer went through numerous injuries and not playing every game with safety Micah Hydefor the first time in his Bills career. All the while, it certainly seemed like there was pressure or a weight on Poyer. So, when he arrived at the media room on Thursday for his news conference, you couldn’t help but notice that weight was lifted. He seemed refreshed and lighter, knowing the pressure to land a big deal was behind him. Poyer was reflective, happy to be back with the Bills and playing with Hyde, and eager to put last year behind him with a healthy and more productive 2023. At one point, Poyer said, “This is where I’m going to finish my career, and I’m excited about that.”

Though Beane deserves credit for how he handled the entire situation. Poyer was a leader on the team, and the Bills could have easily given him a new deal based on how much he’s meant to the organization over the last six years. However, Beane stayed away from making an emotionally based decision and held firm to his valuation of a player entering his age-32 season. The Bills had cap concerns, but Beane didn’t spoil the relationship and instead kept the door open on this exact scenario, with Poyer’s market not being what he hoped for and the Bills looked more appealing as each safety signed. That approach prevented the Bills from having two humongous holes in their defense at middle linebacker and safety.
Hyde and Poyer feed off each other, just like Milano and Edmunds did.

The burden of a contract fight, and the reuniting with Hyde has put a bounce back in Poyer’s step. He seems like a man at peace with himself and his team.

Sure sounds like he is content with two more years with the Bills, and hopefully hoisting the Lombardi at least one of those years.

Re: How much tread does Poyer have left?

    Thanks for sharing that, Nota.

He's set to make $5M/year, so clearly BFO is holding out hope for, but not really expecting more Pro Bowl / All Pro seasons. I'd expect a small dip in performance with a replacement drafted (possibly higher than I'd want) and worked in for snaps throughout the year.
