It was a challenge, but things turned out well. The pregnancy was complicated by placenta previa (the placenta grew over the cervix). That made vaginal birth impossible. She expected to have a C-section in a couple weeks, but started bleeding Tuesday afternoon. She ended up having the C-section Tuesday. It was five weeks from full term but he was big enough that any issue of being premature is minimal. I would guess he'll be able to go home from the hospital in a day or two.

Thanks to all the health care professionals that helped insure her and your grandson’s health. (I hesitate to say “Thank God” because “God” has little to do with this).

We tend to forget how dangerous giving birth is to women, especially in the U.S. where the maternal mortality rate is twice as high in the U.S. than in Germany, UK and France and THREE TIMES higher than in Spain, Italy, Japan and several other countries.
