Defensive end Yannick Ngakoue’s 2023 season is over.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced at a Wednesday press conference that Ngakoue broke his ankle late in last Sunday’s win over the Lions. He will be placed on injured reserve this week and will need surgery.

    Re: Injuries

Dickerson is having surgery on his thumb today but will miss minimal time and will not go on injured reserve, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Dickerson has started all 14 games this season and played 97 percent of the Eagles’ offensive snaps. He also started every game last year and was chosen to the Pro Bowl.
The Eagles are on a three-game losing streak and their offense has failed to score even 20 points in any of those three games. They need to get their offense back on track in time for the playoffs, and they’ll hope that Dickerson is a big part of it.

    Re: Injuries

The Texans are expected to play a second game without starting quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Stroud still is dealing with sensitivity to light and other common concussion symptoms, Aaron Wilson of KPRC reports. Stroud is not medically cleared to return to practice yet, which makes it unlikely he will complete the steps necessary to clear concussion protocol before Sunday.
The Texans are preparing Case Keenum to make a second consecutive start in place of Stroud.

    Re: Injuries

Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith is on the team’s first injury report of the week.
Smith did not take part in Thursday’s practice and he is listed with a knee injury. Smith reportedly emerged from the team’s loss to the Seahawks on Monday night with the issue, but it didn’t appear to hinder him as he played 66 offensive snaps in the game.
Cornerback Darius Slay did not play against the Seahawks and he remained off the field on Thursday. Linebacker Zach Cunningham (knee), guard Landon Dickerson (thumb), and linebacker Nicholas Morrow (abdomen) were also out of practice.

    Re: Injuries

The Cowboys have been without a pair of starting offensive linemen at practice this week and head coach Mike McCarthy is more optimistic about having one of them than the other against the Dolphins on Sunday.

During an appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, McCarthy was asked about right guard Zack Martin and left tackle Tyron Smith. Martin hurt his quad in last Sunday’s loss to the Bills and Smith is dealing with a back injury that McCarthy said makes him less likely to get on the field this weekend.

“I would say Zack’s ahead of Tyron right now,” McCarthy said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

Zach Wilson is out, at least for Sunday.

The starter turned backup turned starter turned backup turned starter will miss Sunday’s game against the Commanders. Jets coach Robert Saleh said Friday that Wilson is out with a concussion sustained last weekend in Miami.

The two quarterbacks will be Trevor Siemian and Brett Rypien. Siemian will start. Although Aaron Rodgers is on the 53-man roster so that he can continue to practice, he won’t be the emergency third quarterback.

    Re: Injuries

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s bid to return from a concussion will move forward on Friday.
Head coach Doug Pederson said at his press conference that Lawrence will practice with the team. Lawrence did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and Pederson said that the quarterback will do as much as he can “tolerate” during the final workout ahead of Sunday’s game in Tampa.
Lawrence remains in the concussion protocol and Pederson said he thinks the odds of him clearing it are “better” than a coin flip. That will have to happen before the Jaguars travel to Tampa on Saturday in order for Lawrence to play.

Outside linebacker Danielle Hunter (illness) returned to a limited practice. Hunter did not practice Wednesday.
Hunter ranks second in the NFL with 15.5 sacks, a half sack behind Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt.
Running back Alexander Mattison (ankle), cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. (knee), receiver Jalen Nalor (concussion), right tackle Brian O’Neill (ankle) and nose tackle Harrison Phillips (back) remained out of practice Thursday.

    Re: Injuries

Cardinals wide receiver Hollywood Brown was active last Sunday, but the heel injury that clouded his status wound up keeping him from doing much during the loss to the 49ers.
Brown will be doing even less against the Bears this weekend. Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said on Friday that Brown, who has not practiced this week, has been ruled out for this weekend.

    Re: Injuries

Head coach Doug Pederson said that Lawrence has been diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder after being injured in Sunday’s loss to the Buccaneers. Pederson said that Lawrence is “doing better today than he did yesterday,” but that he doesn’t expect Lawrence to practice on Wednesday.

“It’s a little bit early,” Pederson said, via the team’s website. “He may do a little something tomorrow, but I would doubt that. It’s a little bit too soon, but we’ll see as the day, as the week, goes on.”
It’s the third straight week that Lawrence is dealing with an injury as he suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 14 and a concussion in Week 15.
“He has been fortunate enough to bounce back from all of them,” Lawrence said. “We’ll see as he goes this week where he’s at. We’ve been fortunate that he has been able to be available every week so far.”

T.J. Watt diagnosed with Grade 3 MCL sprain

The Steelers lost NFL sacks leader T.J. Watt to a knee injury in the third quarter Saturday, and they could be without him next week if they make the postseason.
Watt was diagnosed with a Grade 3 MCL sprain, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. That’s a complete tear of the medial collateral ligament, which is a multi-week injury.
Watt will undergo further testing Sunday.

Jalen Hurts calls himself day to day after his finger “popped out”

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts injured his right middle finger Sunday, and visuals of the disfigured digit were gruesome.

Hurts told reporters afterward that his finger “popped out.”

He called himself “day to day” ahead of next Monday night’s wild-card playoff game at Tampa Bay.

“It’s a very unfortunate, crazy thing,” Hurts said, via EJ Smith of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I’ve never experienced anything like that.”
