Bengals place Joe Burrow on IR, elevate AJ McCarron for Sunday

Jake Browning is expected to start at quarterback the rest of the way for Cincinnati. The club elevated AJ McCarron from the practice squad to be the team’s backup against the Steelers on Sunday.
The Bengals have also activated running back Chase Brown off of injured reserve to take Burrow’s place on the 53-man roster.

David Tepper says Bryce Young was “unanimous” choice of coaches and scouts

The Tuesday press conference involving Panthers owner David Tepper included a specific question regarding whether former head coach Frank Reich wanted to take C.J. Stroud with the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, and whether Tepper tipped the scales in favor of Bryce Young.
Tepper began his response by shedding light generally on the way the team goes about making decisions.
“Just the way our processes go here, I’ll just answer this really plain,” Tepper said. “In all those decisions, whether it was [hiring] the head coach, whether it was [drafting] Bryce, I don’t really vote on those decisions until the last piece, OK? So those decisions are made by . . . the football people.

Patriots re-sign Will Grier to practice squad

The Patriots worked out five players Monday, including former Purdue quarterback Austin Burton. On Tuesday, the team re-signed Will Grier to the practice squad, according to multiple reports.
The Patriots released Grier from their active roster Saturday, and he was expected to explore his options before returning.
The team doesn’t seem to have a plan at the position, with coach Bill Belichick saying multiple times last week that he told every quarterback to be ready to play. Grier didn’t last the week.

Defamation lawsuit against Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is re-filed

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones faces a renewed claim that he and others defamed a woman who claims Jones is her father.

Via ESPN.com, Alexandra Davis re-filed her defamation complaint after a court order from last month dismissed part of her suit and gave her an opportunity to try to file a new document that would survive an inevitable challenge from Jones and others that the case should be thrown out of court.

The revised complaint claims that Jones, lawyer Donald P. Jack, and communications consultant Jim Wilkinson devised a plan to paint Davis as an “extortionist,” through a P.R. campaign “based knowingly on false statements and accusations.”

Joe Flacco bumped up to No. 2

It may be Joe Flacco time for the Browns this weekend.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters on Wednesday that Flacco will be the No. 2 quarterback on the team’s depth chart this week. That could lead to him winding up in the No. 1 seat for Sunday’s road game against the Rams because Dorian Thompson-Robinson remains in the concussion protocol after getting hurt last Sunday.
The team said Thompson-Robinson will not practice in any capacity Wednesday.
P.J. Walker replaced Thompson-Robinson in the loss to Denver and will either be Flacco’s backup or the team’s third quarterback for Week 13.

Chiefs open practice window for Nick Bolton

The Chiefs are getting one of their key defensive players back on the practice field.
Head coach Andy Reid told reporters that linebacker Nick Bolton will participate in Wednesday’s session, which means Kansas City has designated Bolton to return from IR. The Chiefs will have 21 days to activate Bolton to the 53-man roster.
Bolton has been sidelined by a dislocated wrist, which he suffered the Week 7 victory over the Chargers.
