Derrick Brown, Panthers agree to four-year extension

Multiple reports initially indicate Brown’s deal is worth $96 million with $63 million guaranteed.
Brown, who turns 26 this month, was the No. 7 overall pick in 2020. He has become a key piece in the middle of the Panthers’ defense, starting every game for the club over the past two seasons. He was on the field for 89 percent of Carolina’s defensive snaps in 2023, earning his first trip to the Pro Bowl by setting a new record for a defensive lineman with 103 total tackles. He also had seven tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hits, 2.0 sacks, six passes defensed, and an interception last season.

Dalvin Cook- The tools are still here, I'm still that guy - NBC Sports

Running back Dalvin Cook didn’t see much of the field during the 2023 season, but he wants to make sure he remains on the radar of teams that may be looking for veteran help in the backfield.
Cook signed with the Jets last summer, but Breece Hall’s return to health relegated him to a backup role that saw him run 67 times for 214 yards before being released late in the season. He signed to the Ravens’ practice squad and ran eight times for 23 yards in a playoff win over Houston, but did not play in the AFC Championship Game.

Kyle Dugger agrees to four-year deal with Patriots - NBC Sports

NFL Media reports that Dugger will sign a four-year deal with the team. The Patriots used their transition tag on Dugger earlier this offseason, which gave them the right to match any deal the safety agreed to with another team but no offer sheet was ever signed.

Per the report, Dugger’s deal has a base value of $58 million with a max of $66 million and $32.5 million in guaranteed money. Dugger was set to make $13.815 million under the tag.

Dugger was a 2020 second-round pick in New England. He has 343 tackles, 2.5 sacks, nine interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interception returns for touchdowns, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Dolphins remain a possible destination for Odell Beckham Jr.

At the March league meeting, Miami head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that the Dolphins made an offer to free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and said the conversations will be ongoing. A week into April, those conversations haven’t stopped, but they also haven’t resulted in a deal.

A report from Jeremy Fowler of ESPN said that the Dolphins are “trying pretty hard” to sign Beckham, but regardless of how hard they’re trying, they obviously haven’t offered Beckham the kind of money that’s going to make him willing to sign, at least at this point in the offseason.

It was at this point last offseason when the Ravens signed Beckham to a one-year deal, and the $16 million Baltimore paid Beckham proved to be an overpay, as Beckham caught just 35 passes for 565 yards. If Beckham is waiting for that kind of offer, he’s going to be waiting a long time.

Jacoby Brissett, Hunter Henry have big incentive to participate in most of Patriots’ offseason program

Mike Reiss of ESPN.com notes that Jacoby Brissett, who signed with the Patriots in the offseason, has a $500,000 workout bonus. Tight end Hunter Henry, who re-signed after his prior contract expired, has a $350,000 workout bonus.

Typically, workout bonuses require a very high degree of participation in the offseason program. And it’s all-or-nothing; there’s no partial credit for partial attendance and participation.

The Patriots start their offseason program this week. Because of the coaching change to Jerod Mayo, they’re allowed to get going before the bulk of the NFL’s teams, which will launch on April 15.

JC Latham to visit Titans Monday - NBC Sports

One of the teams that could call Latham’s name will be spending time with him on Monday. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Latham will be visiting with the Titans.

Latham also visited the Cardinals last week. He was a two-year starter at right tackle for Alabama and would be the second-straight offensive lineman to join Tennessee as a first-round pick after they drafted Peter Skoronski last year. Skoronski settled at left guard and the team currently has Nicolas Petit-Frere and Dillon Radunz at the top of the tackle depth chart.

Joe Alt, Taliese Funaga, Troy Fautanu, Amarius Mims, and Olu Fashanu are other tackles whose names are frequently mentioned as first-round prospects.

Bears set to host Marvin Harrison Jr. Monday

The Bears have two of the first nine picks in this year’s draft and there’s plenty of speculation about them taking a wide receiver with one of them.

Given that expectation, it’s no surprise that they’re set to meet with one of the top prospects at that position on Monday. Kevin Fishbain of TheAthletic.com reports that Marvin Harrison Jr. is slated for a visit to the team’s facility in Chicago to kick off the week

Report- Chargers have interest in Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Via USA Today, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported over the weekend that the Chargers have expressed interest in Valdes-Scantling.

The 29-year-old started his career with four seasons in Green Bay. He spent the past two in Kansas City, winning a pair of Super Bowls but ultimately not doing enough to persuade the Chiefs to pay him $12 million in 2024.

He had 687 receiving yards on 42 catches in his first regular season with the Chiefs. Last year, that dipped to 315 yards on only 21 receptions.

Anthony Richardson- I’m ready for every opportunity that’s in front of me

Stephen Holder of ESPN.com was in attendance for one of Richardson’s workouts in Jacksonville and saw the quarterback take a few extra throws at the end of the session because he wasn’t happy with what was scripted to be his final throw. Richardson said he probably would have done an extra half-hour of work in the past, but is now “trying to find that balance” between getting it right and staying healthy.

That’s part of what Richardson terms his “mission” for the 2024 season.

“People didn’t really get to see everything I could do on the field,” Richardson said. “So, it’s kind of like a rookie season for me still. But now I’ve gained a lot more knowledge and understanding about football and the NFL. So, I’m a rookie at heart, but now I’m slowly turning into the leader that my team needs me to be. I’m ready for every opportunity that’s in front of me.”
