Rumor makes the rounds of Chase Young to the Bears

Last year at the trading deadline, the Bears gave up a second-round pick for Steelers receiver Chase Claypool. This year, the Bears could be chasing another Chase.

Per a league source, there are rumors in league circles linking the Bears to Commanders pass rusher Chase Young.

It seems odd on the surface, since the two-win Bears hardly fit the profile of buyers. But this would be a long-term play for the Bears, if it happens. The Bears, who have significant cap space in 2024, would want to acquire Young and keep him, with a new contract.

Young was the defensive rookie of the year in 2020. A serious knee injury in 2021 derailed his career.

Five reasons why the NFL won't make meaningful improvements to officiating - NBC Sports

    1. Money.

The NFL is cheap. More accurately, the NFL won’t spend money unless it sees a potential return on the investment.

The NFL doesn’t see the benefit of spending the money necessary for adjustments such as full-time officials or a full embrace of digital technology. The perceived increase in accuracy doesn’t offset the actual increase in expense.

I could go on and on about this. Why do it? Few will disagree. The NFL likes making money. It doesn’t like spending money. That’s not a surprise; every business acts that way.

    2. Effort.

Here’s an angle that a high-level source with one of the NFL’s teams recently pointed out. Beyond what massive improvements would require in the way of money, it would take time and effort.

There would need to be meetings, discussions, conversations. People who already have enough work to do would have to find time to put in even more work. And for what? What’s the upside? What’s the benefit?

Eagles elevate Julio Jones from the practice squad again - NBC Sports

The Eagles elevated wide receiver Julio Jones from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Commanders.

Jones made his Eagles debut last week during a 31-17 Sunday Night Football win over the Dolphins. He saw one target and made the catch for 3 yards.

Philadelphia signed Jones on Oct. 17, adding his 13 years of experience to the locker room.

In three career games against Washington, all with Atlanta, Jones has 22 catches for 282 yards and three touchdowns.

Giants’ -9 passing yards was the lowest total in the NFL this century

Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor went 4-for-7 for 8 yards passing and lost 7 yards on sacks Sunday against the Jets. After Taylor left the game with an injury, backup Tommy DeVito went 2-for-7 for -1 passing, and lost 9 yards on sacks.

Add that up, and the Giants netted -9 yards passing in the game. That’s the worst total in any NFL game this century.

YouTube promises that Sunday Ticket issues are fixed

On Sunday, YouTube TV had its first batch of widespread glitches with the NFL’s Sunday Ticket package,
Via Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal, YouTube executive Lori Conkling said Thursday at the SBJ Media Innovators conference that the situation has been resolved.
    “It’s completely mitigated,” Conkling said.
“People can have confidence in this Sunday, but it is top of mind for us that we are responsible for delivering the exceptional experience that we have promised to our viewers,” she added. “So we take that very seriously, and we have done everything possible to ensure it does not happen again.”
Asked whether she is confident the fix will work, she said, “We are.”

Raiders owner Mark Davis reveals main reason for decision to hit reset, fire Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler

    • Davis seems to be hoping for a spark. Firing a coach in the middle of the season is always a risk, but it can pay off. Sometimes, teams will play better after a firing and that's what Davis is hoping get here, "What I thought was, let's try to figure out a way to fix this and see what we can do," Davis said. "We still have a shot." Davis is clearly hoping that lightning will strike twice for his team. After Jon Gruden resigned in October 2021, interim coach Rich Bisaccia led them to the playoffs by leading the team to a 7-5 record over their final 12 games.

Browns' Deshaun Watson unsure if he'll play Week 9 vs. Cardinals despite returning to practice

Deshaun Watson returned to practice for the Browns this week. But that doesn't mean the embattled quarterback will suit up for Sunday's Week 9 game against the Cardinals, with Watson telling reporters Thursday he's "not even sure" he'll be available.
