Mike McDaniel hopes week in Germany prepares Dolphins for the week before the Super Bowl

The Dolphins spent the entire week in Germany practicing for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, and Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel hopes it’s not the last time his team works for a week in unfamiliar surroundings.

McDaniel said he believes it can be valuable for the Dolphins to have a week of preparation practicing away from their own facility, as if they make it to the Super Bowl they’ll spend a week practicing in Las Vegas before the game.

“In ultimate success, you need to be able to run your system remotely,” McDaniel said, via Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN. “You don’t want your first reps running your system remotely to be the Super Bowl.”

Trent McDuffie: Chiefs knew they “had to get hands on” Tyreek Hill

Tyreek Hill couldn’t wait for his chance to score a touchdown against the Chiefs. He had a special celebration planned, apparently including a message to Kansas City coach Andy Reid that he shouldn’t have traded Hill.
Now, Hill will have to wait for his next game against the Chiefs to unleash it.
The Kansas City defense neutralized Hill on Sunday. After the game played in Frankfurt, Germany, Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie explained to PFT the strategy for containing one of the most dangerous receivers in league history.
“We knew we had to get hands on him,” McDuffie said. “A guy like that — explosive, fast. I mean, he can really do it all, make all the plays. So, trying to limit those explosive plays, mess up that timing of the offense with him and Tua [Tagovailoa] was a huge thing for us tonight.”

Vikings have not yet determined if they’ll open Justin Jefferson’s practice window this week

Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson is eligible to come off of injured reserve this week.
But as of Monday, it’s unclear whether or not Minnesota will open his 21-day practice window.
Head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters during his press conference that the club is still working through the options with Jefferson.
“We’re going to do what’s best for Justin, and make sure when he does return, he can be the Justin Jefferson we all know and can expect to see,” O’Connell said, via Ben Goessling of the Minnesota Star Tribune.
Jefferson has been out since suffering the injury in the Week 5 loss to Kansas City.

Sammy Watkins worked out with Colts on Monday

Watkins was most recently with the Ravens last year, appearing in three games. He caught three passes for 119 yards in the regular season and then one pass for 12 yards in the postseason. Watkins also played nine games for the Packers in 2022, catching 123 passes for 206 yards.
The No. 4 overall pick of the 2014 draft, Watkins, 30, spent his first three seasons with the Bills before they traded him to the Rams in Aug. 2017. He then played for the Chiefs for three seasons, winning Super Bowl LIV with the club. He played for Baltimore in 2021.
He’s recorded 364 career receptions for 5,384 yards with 34 touchdowns.
The Colts will face the Patriots in Germany on Sunday.

Jets elevate Malik Taylor, Xavier Newman for Monday night’s game

Wide receiver Malik Taylor and offensive lineman Xavier Newman have both been elevated from the practice squad on a temporary basis. Both players will revert back to the practice squad after the game.
Taylor was called up last Sunday and played 23 snaps in a 13-10 overtime win over the Giants. The most memorable of those snaps came when he drew a 30-yard pass interference penalty to set up Greg Zuerlein’s game-winning kick.
Newman also played a role in the Week Eight win. He played guard and center after injuries to Connor McGovern and Wes Schweitzer and the Jets lost a fumble on a bad exchange with Zach Wilson on Newman’s first snap of the game.

Vikings plan to start Josh Dobbs this week

He led all rushers on the day, for both teams, with 66 yards. He scrambled for an 18-yard touchdown. On fourth and seven with the game on the line, he ran for 22 yards.
It was a fitting development for a local kid who grew up watching Mike Vick gain yardage on the ground with the Falcons.
Vikings quarterback Josh Dobbs, who hails from Alpharetta, ultimately won Sunday’s game with his legs as much as with his arm. After the 31-28 win, I asked Dobbs when he decides to take off with the ball.
“When everyone’s covered,” he said. “If they cover everyone up, they usually don’t have someone for me and I’m able to take advantage . . . . of what the defense has given me.”

Aaron Rodgers walking without limp eight weeks after Achilles’ tear

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is making fast progress in his attempt to return this season from an Achilles’ tear.
Rodgers arrived to Monday night’s game against the Chargers several hours before the game, walking briskly to the locker room at MetLife Stadium. He previously rode in a motorized cart through the bowels of the stadium when attending games.
Rodgers threw on the field pregame, as he has before other games, but put weight on his surgically repaired left ankle and let it fly. The Jets’ social media account posted video of the throwing session with the caption “lettin’ it rip.”
Rodgers tore his Achilles eight weeks ago in the season opener against the Bills.

Keenan Allen reaches 10,000 career receiving yards: “That’s amazing”

Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen topped the 10,000 career receiving yards milestone during Monday night’s win over the Jets, and afterward he said he had impressed even himself.
“That’s amazing. Hard work paying off, consistency, resiliency. I’ve been through a lot, injuries, so it’s nice,” Allen said.
Allen topped the 10,000-yard mark on a sensational leaping one-handed catch which he said he was looking forward to seeing on the highlight shows.
“I haven’t seen it yet, but it felt pretty good on the field,” Allen said.
Among active players, Allen is sixth in career receiving yards behind Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Travis Kelce and Davante Adams.

Cardinals are expecting Kyler Murray to run like he always has

Murray’s legs are as important to his game as his right arm, so the question now is: Will his running suffer after reconstructive knee surgery?

Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing isn’t concerned.

He’s healthy; he’s ready to go; and we will put him in position to be successful,” Petzing said, via Darren Urban of the team website. “That’s always the nature of the franchise quarterback, and you see it around the league when they are very mobile, there is an injury risk associated with that. We have to manage that as all teams with elite quarterbacks do.”
